Out of print in the U.S.! The Ultimate Collection from Diva Ross and her two Supreme sidekicks is just that....the ULTIMATE Collection! This is the best single-disc compilation on the market by the chirpy trio and features more than a plethora of hits. The world is a much better place because of songs like 'Where Did Our Love Go', 'Stop! In The Name Of Love', 'I Hear A Symphony', 'Baby Love', 'You Can't Hurry Love', 'The Happening' and everything else on this CD. There's 25 great tracks here that say more in three minutes than many artists entire catalog. It's soulful. It's melodic. It's brilliant. It's the ultimate collection. Universal.
Personnel includes: Diana Ross (vocals). Producers include: Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier, Nickolas Ashford, Valerie Simpson, Michael Masser. Compilation producer: Diana Ross. This is a collection of singles. The Supremes: Diana Ross, Flo Ballard, Mary Wilson, Cindy Birdsong. Additional personnel includes: The Temptations (vocals); The Four Tops (background vocals). Producers include: Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier, Nickolas Ashford, Valerie Simpson, Deke Richards. Compilation producer: Harry Weinger. Includes liner notes by Diane Weathers. All tracks have been digitally remastered. This is part of Motown Records' Ultimate Collection series. Personnel: The Four Tops (background vocals). Audio Remasterer: Kevin Reeves. Arrangers: Paul Riser; Wade Marcus. For those who believe the Supremes' best work can be found within the bounds of their many hits, this edition of Motown's solid, late-'90s repackaging job will be the collection to get. Covering the seraphic vocal group's prime stretch, the 25-track set (nine short of the previous -- and arguably still superior -- Anthology package) includes all the big hits, plus two fine Temptations collaborations ("I'm Gonna Make You Love Me," "I'll Try Something New") and relative obscurities from the latter days ("The Composer," "No Matter What Sign You Are"). Featuring top-drawer production by Holland-Dozier-Holland, label-chief Barry Gordy, Frank Wilson, and a young Ashford & Simpson, Diana Ross & the Supremes' Ultimate Collection makes for a very enjoyable way to get cozy with one of soul music's most regal vocal-harmony groups. ~ Stephen Cook One Woman: The Ultimate Collection attempts to condense Diana Ross's most successful recordings into one 20-song, 71-and-a-half-minute disc. Well, there's good news and bad news. The good news is tbat Ross (who produced the album, which is to say picked the tracks) has included six of her Supremes recordings from the 1960s (one of them, "Someday We'll Be Together," in a new disco mix) and licensed a few songs from her stay at RCA in the 1980s, making this the most wide-ranging of her compilations. The bad news is that she has jettisoned many possible hits (only ten of her 18 chart toppers are included) in the name of featuring four tracks from the 1990s that do not rank with her best, either aesthetically or in terms of popularity. In other words, Ross has constructed the album as she might a concert -- a sprinkling of early Supremes hits, all her biggest solo hits, and what she considers the highlights of her current work. The result is a less than perfect, or "ultimate" portrait, since the selection implies erroneously that a forgettable piece of tripe like the 1991 Top 40 hit "When You Tell Me That You Love Me" is as much a milestone in the Ross catalog as "You Can't Hurry Love" or "Upside Down" (and that Ross remained as significant an artist in 1994 as she was in 1964 and 1974). But the album still makes a good sampler of Ross's entire 30-plus-year career for beginners. ~ William Ruhlmann THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION is as all-encompassing as a single disc can be in cataloging a three-decade career (so far) that could be filed under any of a dozen or so branches of pop and R&B. When the Smoke Clears continues Three 6 Mafia's ominous march toward the mainstream, a parade of uncompromising confrontation that grew more credible, album after album and year after year. Here the Memphis collective do what they've been doing all along: spit harsh, chant-along rhymes about anything imaginably taboo, from tongue-ringed fellators to codeine-syrup sippers, over downright menacing beats by Juicy J and DJ Paul. What sets When the Smoke Clears apart from its predecessors is the glossier production and numerous big-name ...
