(1 Customer Review)
Thirty songs from Bob King's early-1960s Rodeo/Banff library, culled from the albums Sing a Country Song, Songs That Tell a Story, and Songs That Tell a Story, Vol. 2. These are, as the title implies, story songs, such as "The Ballad of the Chapeau Boys," "Strawberry Roan" (which he probably learned from Wilf Carter), "When the Work's All Done This Fall," "The Cat Came Back," "Little Tom," "Jimmie Brown the Newsboy," and "The Ballad of Jed Clampett." About half of this stuff is accompanied only by King's acoustic guitar, and they're very impressive as attempts at authenticity; even the stuff with a band is nicely stripped down and lean. A handful are duets of Bob and Marie King together, and they harmonize beautifully. ~ Bruce Eder Songs That Tell A Story Music Bob King Songs That Tell A Story Songs | 1. | You and My Old Guitar |

Songs That Tell A Story album
$155.29 Country music doesn't get any more essential than this. The five-disc box set SHE THINKS I STILL CARE is undoubtedly the most awe-inspiring George Jones collection to date. Jones was at his peak during his 1962-'64 stint on the UA label, and some of his most unforgettable recordings hail from this era. You get much more on this set than mere timeless, undeniable gems such as "The Race is On," "She Thinks I Still Care," and "Let's Invite Them Over," though.
From heartbroken Hank Williams tributes like "Take These Chains From My Heart" to the spiritual intensity of "Kneel at the Feet of Jesus" and a generous helping of Jones's legendary duets with Melba Montgomery (easily on a par with his Tammy Wynette collaborations), this set gives us a full picture of the man's artistry. And with five discs worth of tracks, you couldn't ask for more comprehensive coverage of this era. You can get the aforementioned hits on a million best-of packages, it's the rest of the story that makes SHE THINKS I STILL CARE such an outstanding ...

Songs That Tell A Story CD music
$11.05 While the vast majority of post-punk bands who have an obvious taste for the blues seem to enjoy taking the style apart and messing around with the bits and pieces, the Black Keys are the (relative) traditionalists within the subgenre. With their two-piece, no-bass format, there's no room for clutter or wank, and the raunchy fuzz of Dan Auerbach's guitar (and drummer Patrick Carney's production) owes more to the Gories/Blues Explosion/White Stripes school of aural grime than anything else, but look past all that and the Black Keys are a straight-up blues band who could probably cut an album for Alligator if they were willing to clean up their act and fill out the lineup. And Alligator would doubtless be glad to have 'em -- the Black Keys's wail is hot, primal, and heartfelt, and Auerback's lean but meaty guitar lines and room-filling ...

| | Disco Deutschland: Disco, Funk & Philly Anthems From Germany 1975-1980 CD (2007)
Songs That Tell A Story album
$14.09 Though disco music first gained popularity in America, it soon became an international phenomenon, with German producers and artists scoring notable hits. This collection features tracks from the genre's golden years between 1975 and 1980, when performers such as the model Amanda Lear and the studio band Silver Convention made disco their own. Highlights include the Convention's own dance workout "Love in a Sleeper," and veteran pop music bandleader James Last's jazzy "I Can't Move No Mountains."
...from Germany 1975-1980. Welcome to Teutonic boogie wonderland, fellow disco citizens. Presenting 18 sparkling disco, funk & Philly anthems from Germany -- recorded between 1975 and 1980. While never appreciated by rock critics, disco is actually one of the few musical genres where German productions had a huge international impact and heavily influenced American and British recordings. It's finally time to get this documented and appreciated. Shying away from the obvious hits, Disco Deutschland Disco digs a bit deeper - with many tracks appearing on CD for the first time. Su Kramer kickstarts our party of German glitterball grooves with the anthemic "You've Got The Power" from 1976, previously only available on 7". There's Marianne Rosenberg's superb Philly-infused "Wieder Zusammen," which is pure mirrorball magic. Alfie Khan Sound Orchestra presents "Illegal Toys," featuring a proto-house riff ripe for sampling. Munich Machine was Giorgio Moroder's studio band that played on countless German disco recordings, and "Get On The Funk Train" is Moroder in excelsis -- featuring all the trademarks of his groundbreaking productions that still ...
