| | Jimmy Swan Honky Tonkin' In Mississippi CD - Import Jimmy Swan Discography of CDs
Thirty songs covering 16 years, Jimmy Swan's complete output from 1952 through 1968/69, that any serious fan of Hank Williams ought to own already if they're really serious. Swan's twangy hillbilly intonation and stripped-down band sound went from being hot stuff on the radio and in the honky tonks around Hattiesburg to commercial poison in little more than three years, from 1952 to 1955, but he kept right at it until the end of the 1960s. It didn't sell much after 1955, but it sure is good listening. ~ Bruce Eder

$11.45 In the manner of Natalie Cole's UNFORGETTABLE, Elvis Presley's CHRISTMAS DUETS is a collection of Christmas songs that Elvis recorded throughout his career, remixed in 2008 to add new vocal parts by many of today's biggest female country stars, some of whom had not yet been born when Elvis died in 1977. Honky Tonkin' In Mississippi music CDs
$14.69 Taylor Swift abandons any pretense that she's a teen on her second album, FEARLESS--which isn't to say that she suddenly tarts herself up, running away from her youth in a manner that's all too familiar to many teen stars. Swift's maturation is deliberate and careful, styled after the crossover country-pop of Shania Twain and Faith ...

When the first volume of Johnny Cash's AMERICAN series appeared in 1994, it would have been difficult to predict its critical and commercial success, much less the fact that an illness-beset Cash would be turning out a powerful fourth installment of the series eight years later. Like its three predecessors, AMERICAN IV is a home-recorded, bare-bones Rick Rubin production wherein Cash tackles old classics by other writers as well as more contemporary tunes by artists from the rock world, with a smattering of his own new compositions thrown in. It's also arguably the strongest since the first volume.
Now that the novelty of hearing the Man in Black tackle tunes ...
| | Dillards Let It Fly CD (1991)
Honky Tonkin' In Mississippi music CDs
$15.05 Over the years, the Dillards have had their share of personnel changes. When they recorded Let It Fly for Vanguard in 1990, the main participants were founding member Rodney Dillard (lead vocals), Steve Cooley (acoustic guitar, banjo), Dean Webb (mandolin), and Mitch Jayne (who co-wrote a few of the tunes). Produced by the Desert Rose Band's Herb Pedersen, Let It Fly is really more country-rock than bluegrass -- no one will mistake this CD for a collection of Bill Monroe recordings from the '40s. Let It Fly, which favors a blend of acoustic and electric instruments, doesn't cater to bluegrass purists. But then, the Dillards ...
