Memories of You Soundtrack album for sale This is a continuous in-the-mix CD compiled and mixed by DJ Grandmaster Flash. This is not a collection of classic Grandmaster Flash 12-inch jams from back in the day (try the essential MESSAGE FROM BEAT STREET for that) but Grandmaster Flash's own live mix of 16 classic dance tracks from the 1970s and '80s, combined on the master's own deck. It is a rather brilliant selection of tracks, from the pop fluff of Nu Shooz's "I Can't Wait" (containing possibly the coolest synth sound of the '80s) to acknowledged genre classics like Liquid Liquid's punk-funk milestone "Cavern" (the birthplace of the famous bass line from Flash's later hit "White Lines") and Indeep's "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life." Flash keeps the cutting and scratching to a minimum, preferring to let the songs groove on their own. This isn't a full-length display of bravura technique like the genre-defining masterpiece "The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel," but as a suite of old-school dance-floor jams, it's pretty hard to beat. Memories of You Soundtrack buy CD music There have been many Frankie Ruiz compilations, before and after his untimely death in 1998. This one, part of the double-disc, discount-priced Gold series assembled by Universal Music's Hip-O reissue division, compares favorably to a couple of earlier two-CD packages. Among its 31 tracks are 15 also contained on the 25-track Leyenda of 1999, but it is particularly similar to the 2001 collection Serie 32, not only sharing 27 selections, but also putting many of them in the same non-chronological sequence. Clearly, there isn't much debate about what Ruiz's best and most popular tracks are. The salsa beat never lets up, and the singer is unflagging in his enthusiasm; he may have lived a troubled life, but those troubles are nowhere apparent on these lively recordings. ~ William Ruhlmann

Unquestionably, Pat Benatar was one of the most popular mainstream rock artists of the early to mid-'80s, as it seemed like her videos were constantly on MTV, her hits endlessly on the radio, and her singles/albums in the upper reaches of the charts. And as evidenced by 2003's Greatest Hits Live -- which is comprised of a vintage performance from August 1981, when some fans would say Benatar was at her peak -- the singer and her backing band also had no problems on the concert stage, either. Fine renditions of all of Benatar's early hits are included here ("Treat Me Right," "Fire and Ice," "Promises in the Dark," "Hit Me with Your Best Shot") as well as a few oft-overlooked gems ("Hell Is for Children," "Precious Time") and even a Beatles cover ("Helter Skelter"). Memories of You Soundtrack CD music Buck 65 from Mount Uniacke Nova Scotia - population 3,500 - combines elements of hip-hop, blues, roots, rock, country and folk music to become one of the most enduring artists on the international hip-hop scene. His 'career in a nutshell' doesn't exactly read like the how-to handbook for elementary hip-hop artists. Not surprising, really, given that for the last 20 years he has built a reputation on breaking the mould. Throughout his career, this small-town Canadian emcee and turntablist has pushed all sorts of boundaries on his way to create a sound that is truly Buck 65. While many of his cotemporaries faded away, Buck 65's avant-garde approach kept him at the edge of the music scene, and won him countless dedicated fans around the world. Buck 65's 20- year career alone is testament to how much appeal his music has. Throw in 3 Juno award wins and 5 nominations, and live collaborations with artists like PJ Harvey and Moby, and you've got the portrait of an artist who is clearly as respected by his contemporaries as he is loved by his audiences.
