When Robert Gordon entered the recording studio in June 1980 to record what was to be his fifth album, it was make or break time with RCA. He emerged from the studio with 12 songs, but RCA wasn't happy with what they had heard, so they sent him back to work on more material. The material that he began working on that November eventually became his final RCA album, Are You Gonna Be The One, while only two songs from the June sessions were ever released. This fantastic Bear Family release compiles the other ten unreleased tracks from those sessions, and they are stunning. Leaving the rockabilly rebel in his back pocket, Gordon concentrates on pure pop and rock 'n' roll, never trying to be commercial or mainstream, yet sounding instantly accessible. His version of the Beatles' "Run For Your Life" rocks with more venom than the original, while the Elvis classic "Suspicion" equals the original in emotional power. Other gems include the driving "I Found You," the grooving "Movin' Too Slow," and the dramatic "So Young, So Bad." "It Hurts So Much" and "One Day Left" are fantastic pop songs. Marshall Crenshaw's "Wasting My Time" sounds as if it could have been recorded at the legendary Sun Studios. And on top of all these great unheard tracks, you get the remainder of Gordon's recordings from Private Stock and RCA that didn't end up on Bear Family's Red Hot 1977-1981 and Black Slacks compilation CDs. ~ Steve "Spaz" Schnee
21 tracks from 1977-81, inc. 10 tracks that were thought to be lost in the RCA vaults - the remaining cuts here never saw the light of day on his other albums - his vocal style sounds like a mix of Elvis, Meatloaf & Roy Orbison - mid-fifties rockabilly m Robert Gordon Lost Album, Plus Songs | 1. | Suspicion |

"Everyone, everywhere! Dance or fade out..." the voice commands on "My Mind (Mindless Mix)," one of a dozen standout dance tracks on this chart-topping debut from Sweden's Ace Of Base. THE SIGN is just that, a '90s disco celebration from Scandanavia that takes hip-hop to be an international cipher for dance music. By blending cool European techno sounds with hip-hop and reggae dance beats, Ace Of Base have developed a provocative new pop style that might one day put them in a league with platinum perennials like Abba.
That Ace Of Base's celebratory club sounds should be emanating from the frozen north of Europe is indicative of the kind of outreach American popular music has always enjoyed. ...

$10.49 This 1970 album serves as the final installment in the Kinks' string of '60s masterpieces. In an age when most rockers were capitalizing on the new sound inspired by The Beatles' SGT. PEPPER, Ray Davies and the Kinks were looking back in time for musical inspiration on records like ARTHUR and VILLAGE GREEN PRESERVATION SOCIETY. Mixing classic rock & roll, blues, American country, and English dance hall music, The Kinks were ahead of and behind the times all at once. LOLA VERSUS POWERMAN AND THE MONEY-GO-ROUND merges some of Davies's highbrow stylistic concepts with the edgier rock & roll of the band's early years on some of the finest songs of the group's career.
