| Complete Library Of Congress Sessions, 1941-42 Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) A blues phenomena For all Howling Wolf, T-Bone Walker fans who love the sound of a gravel voice singing the blues with the unique style that is Son House (Robert Johnson was a student of this man). Mind blowing. Submitted by earl.s (Fleet, Hamp., UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
freight train blues Redolent with the raw power of a live performance, aided by the shouts of encouragement from his accompianists, Son House stomps and hollers through seven classic tracks, recorded at Klack's Store, Lake Cormorant, Mississippi in 1941. Shetland Pony Blues, hammered out in whining bottleneck, is augmented by the hoarse steaming of the Robinsonville freight train passing behind the store, surely one of the most effecting sounds captured in music. The rest of the album, recorded about a year later, finds Son House as powerful as ever and more subtle, picking and sliding his way through more classic tracks. An essential album.
