Fire & Ice: Lost Tapes album
$16.59 During their first two years of recording, the Animals had never quite succeeded when it came to recording LPs -- good as some of the songs on their first two albums, done for EMI, had been, there was this sense that single were what this band was really about. Then, newly signed to English Decca, they delivered Animalisms, a truly transcendent collection of a dozen songs, mostly superb covers interspersed with some good originals, principally by Eric Burdon and Dave Rowberry. Burdon was never singing better and the group had developed a bold, tight sound that seemed to lift his soul shouting to ever higher levels of passion and conviction. "Outcast," "Maudie," "You're on My Mind," "Clapping," "That's All I Am to You," "Squeeze Her - Tease Her," "I Put a Spell on You," "She'll Return It," and "Gin House Blues" all rate among the best work the band ever did, passionate, gorgeous, and exciting R&B down to the last note, ...
| | Who BBC Sessions CD (2000)
Fire & Ice: Lost Tapes CD music
$10.45 On the 30th anniversary of LIVE AT LEEDS, the Who released this 25-track collection of material recorded between 1965 and 1973. This fascinating aural document provides insight the development of this seminal band from R&B-crazed mods into technically brilliant purveyors of original material. Although the sound quality of the earlier recordings varies a bit, the Who's tight playing and musical nuances (like the group's often-overlooked harmonies) point to greater triumphs in the future.
This quartet of soul fans mixes in familiar hits by the Olympics ("Good Lovin'") and Martha and the Vandellas ("Dancing in the Streets") with more obscure material by Eddie Holland ("Leaving Here") and James Brown ("Just You ...
| | Iggy Pop Kill City CD (1977)
Fire & Ice: Lost Tapes music CDs
$11.95 Out of Iggy Pop's numerous post-Stooges solo albums, 1977's KILL CITY is probably his most curious release. Recorded a couple of years before it was released, KILL CITY was a collaboration between Iggy and former Stooges guitarist ...
| | David Bowie ChangesBowie CD (1990)
Fire & Ice: Lost Tapes songs
$11.65 Long before Madonna started changing hairstyles between albums, David Bowie set the standard (and continues to do so) for chameleonic music styles that go beyond mere hair dye. CHANGESBOWIE is the perfect road map that allows the listener to hear the different pitstops Bowie made into the mid-'80s. Throughout the '70s, Bowie's personas included space alien ("Ziggy Stardust," "Suffragette City"), theatrical raconteur ("Rebel, Rebel"), blue-eyed soulster ("Young Americans") and Thin White Duke ("Golden Years"). After spending time in Berlin under self-imposed exile ("Heroes"), he returned to the West and within a few short years, David Bowie was back on the top of the charts thanks to a dance-rock collaboration ...
| | Monks Black Monk Time CD (1966) Bonus Tracks
Fire & Ice: Lost Tapes album
$13.95 One of the strangest artifacts of the 1960s, the Monks' sole album, BLACK MONK TIME essentially anticipates Blank Generation punk by about a decade. The music is a furious rush of minimalist drums (seemingly influenced by German marching bands), percussive electric banjo strums, fuzz guitar and feedback, and in-your-face lyrics expressing such tender sentiments as "I hate you" and "Shut up!" To be sure, the Monks will occasionally remind you of other rock bands of their day; L.A.'s Music Machine, for example, ...

| | Golden Earring Grab It For A Second CD (1978) (Import) Netherlands
Fire & Ice: Lost Tapes album
$19.99 Import remastered reissue of the long running Dutch rock act's 1978 album that's out-of-print domestically.
On Grab It for a Second, Golden Earring continued in the straightforward hard rock direction they started with 1977's Contraband. They also went for a more radio-friendly sound by teaming up with producer Jimmy Iovine, who polished their sound to a new level of slickness and also fleshed out the group's sound with ...
