Released in 1992, Tomb of the Mutilated helped establish Cannibal Corpse's reputation as one of metal's goriest, most vile outfits. Boasting some of the sickest album art and song titles of all time, the band's attention-getting tactics worked perfectly and record sales soared. Cannibal Corpse then became one of the biggest names in the death metal genre -- just as the group's discs and live performances were being banned all over the world. Listeners unfamiliar with the belching vocal style and pummeling drum and guitar attack typical of death metal probably won't understand what separates this or any other record that adheres so stringently to the genre's formula, but learned fans have come to appreciate Tomb of the Mutilated as a solid, if not important, offering. Vocalist Chris Barnes' constant barrage of Cookie Monster-esque lowdown grunting is pretty much unintelligible throughout, leaving his gross-out lyrics offensive only to those who read them. However, the effect works nicely and maintains tradition. Standout tracks include "Beyond the Cemetery" -- which boasts the record's best riffs -- and speedier cuts like "Split Wide Open" and "The Cryptic Stench." Generally not taken seriously in many metal quarters due to their fascination with cartoonish gore, Cannibal Corpse somehow managed to outlast many of their more critically accepted contemporaries due in no small part to early career efforts like Tomb of the Mutilated, with its powerful musical focus. ~ Vincent Jeffries Tomb Of The Mutilated Music Tomb Of The Mutilated Music Tomb Of The Mutilated Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews NOT THE BEAST CANNBAL CORPSE It has a few, moderately good songs, though nothing great.

CC can do no wrong another gory, bloody, demented album from the masters of gore, Cannibal Corpse. This one contains probably their most well-known song in "hammer smashed face." this stuff is brutal, but somehow tricks you into thinking you hear hints of melody buried in the mix. Essential stuff. Pestilence, stench, putrid death... This album sounds like if you put a zombie in the bathroom with eight little children and left them alone. The sound is...I can´t describe what this album sounds, simply pestilent and vomitive, and of course this is one of CC´music attractives. The sound , that can make the listening of this album a torture fo'r many ears, help to create a sickening atmposphere where all instruments dwell in putrescence and insanity. I just love this sick album. Not recommended for bombastic hearts. Submitted by Ventor (Madrid, Span) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Best cd with Chris Barnes in the band By far the heaviest album with Chris Barnes still in the band, like the other review said, Hammer Smashed Face
is probably the best song on the cd.
WARNING: for those of you who have not
yet listened to older Cannibal Corpse
I must warn it is at a much lower tone.
Especially the lyrics, but in my opinion it is better. Great cd overall
BUY IT!!!!! Submitted by a reviewer (Norwalk, Oh, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$14.89 Liner Note Author: Tom Terrell. Photographer: Tom Terrell. Arrangers: Augustus Pablo; Sly Dunbar; Robbie Shakespeare; Larry Fallon. Part of Hip-O Records' extensive Gold series of best-of compilations, Reggae Gold is one of the more definitive volumes in the series, rounding up 30 songs that truly are some of the best reggae ever. Granted, there are some major omissions. For instance, where's Bob Marley, or how about his fellow Wailer Peter Tosh? And what about the ragga revolution of the '80s, let alone the dancehall era that followed? You'll have to look elsewhere to find that music. None of it's here, unfortunately. But Hip-O does a commendable job, given its vault -- the huge Universal vault, that is, which most prominently includes the extensive Island Records catalog. Reggae Gold stretches from 1969 (Desmond Dekker & the Aces' "Israelites") to 1983 (Toots Hibbert's cover of Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing"), and features many of this era's top songs and, consequently, the era's top artists. There are a few of the early crossover singles that put reggae on the map in the first place, namely Dekker's "You Can Get It if You Really Want," Toots & the Maytals' "Pressure Drop," and Jimmy Cliff's "The Harder They Come" (all three from the epochal Harder They Come soundtrack). There's also a good serving ...

Tomb Of The Mutilated
$14.85 AXES 2 AXES showcases the talents of former Twisted Sister guitarist Eddie Ojeda. Eddie Ojeda will always be best known among headbangers as one half of the guitar duo in Twisted Sister. But in 2006, Ojeda decided to step out on his own, and issued his first ever solo release, Axes 2 Axes. Expectedly, the material reflects the heavy metal style of his full-time band -- in fact, Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider even drops by for a metallicized cover of the Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby." Other special guests drop by as well, including Ronnie James Dio on the album opening "Tonight," as well as additional appearances by Joe Lynn Turner and Rudy Sarzo, among others. Ojeda also gets to show off his six-string skills on such tracks as "Funky Monkey" and especially the Joe Satriani-esque title track. Twisted Sister fans are sure to enjoy hearing one of their top guitar heroes showcase his abilities throughout Axes 2 Axes. ~ Greg Prato
