Metal Massacre, Vol. 2
$6.09 Engineers include: Mike Moore, Joe Borja, Bob Stoutenburg. This collection of early-'80s metal bands has stayed in print for one reason only, Metallica. This is the first recorded appearance of the infamous foursome, and their immense mainstream success has managed to keep this from disappearing into obscurity. The bands that they share this compilation with are typical of metal bands of the time. Influenced by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (which included bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Saxon) but played with the fury of punk rock, this is where thrash metal really started. One of the unfortunate traits that these bands learned from their English counterparts is the shrill, high-pitched singing style that was popular in metal at the time. Malice and Cirith Ungol come off as the most dated because of their banshee ...

Exodus: Paul Baloff (vocals); Gary Holt, Rick Hunolt (guitar); Jack Gibson (bass); Tom Hunting (drums). Recorded live at the Trocadero, San Francisco, California on March 8, 1997. Recorded during a one-off 1997 reunion show, this vibrant live album featured the near original lineup of thrash metal pioneers Exodus; the only absent parties are original bassist Geoff Andrews and guitarist Kirk Hammet, who was probably tied up at his day job Metallica. Though it was almost certainly tweaked in the studio at a later date, the performance captured on Another Lesson in Violence sounds amazingly live and raw, containing furious renditions of the band's many early classics, screw-ups and all. The band wisely concentrates on material from their landmark debut Bonded By Blood, ...
| | Emperor Emperial Live Ceremony CD (2000)
Metal Massacre, Vol. 2
$13.49 This is an Enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Recorded at the Astoria Theater, London, England. This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Emperor (Black Metal): Ihsahn (vocals, guitar); Samoth (guitar); Charmand Grimloch (keyboards, background vocals); Trym (drums). As black metal's fully enthroned reigning kings, Emperor are truly an interesting, intriguing act, combining the soaring, operatic, orchestral sensibilities of classical music with the pomposity, technical skill, and brutality of various types of heavy metal. What emerges from that Norwegian cocoon is something entirely new, or if not entirely new, then a fully realized version of something that had been attempted by other acts. This live disc, which also incorporates multimedia -- a video for "I Am the Black Wizards" and Emperor screensavers -- was recorded and engineered during European touring for Equilibrium IX. Whether ...

Metal Massacre, Vol. 2
$13.65 Kinetic Dissent formed in 1987 in Atlanta. 'I Will Fight No More Forever' is their debut release from 1991, orginally on Roadracer Records. Today it seems really awkward that this record has been so overlooked. Introducing nine prog-metal masterpieces, the album featured a surprisingly wide range of compositional varieties, stretching out from slow, dissonant and almost Voivod-like sections, to mid-paced and melodic tunes and fast, thrash-oriented pieces. This reissue is digitally remasted and comes as a limited digipack numbered edition of 2000.
Personnel: Ed Reimer (drums). Recording information: Channel One Studios (01/1991-02/1991). One of those albums that's really more interesting than good, Kinetic Dissent's lone release, I Will Fight No More Forever, attempted to shove an intriguing, eclectic, and sometimes downright strange assortment of disparate musical elements into the already dead and decomposing carcass of thinking man's ...
