(3 Customer Reviews)
Six Feet Under's debut album, Haunted, promised to be an exciting collaboration between Cannibal Corpse vocalist Chris Barnes and Obituary guitarist Allen West, and by and large it lives up to its promise. After all, it's hard to go wrong with Barnes, one of the best vocalists in stateside death metal, West, a veteran guitarist who had anchored one of the genre's leading bands, and producer Scott Burns, the most accomplished death metal producer in the industry. Six Feet Under points toward a bright future for this very dark band. ~ Jason Birchmeier

Six Feet Under Haunted Songs Haunted Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) HYBRED This is great cd, prolly one of the most groveable by a death metal band. Snapping drum hits, and powerful chords mixed with Barnes guttural genius make this a great listener. Perfect for Halloween partys. Shouldnt be compared to their last 2-3 releases, this is different, different line up and one can tell. Submitted by eric (west michigan) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Ghosts??? What Ghosts??? Hmmm...though you knew your Death Metal, did you? Probably thought that the disparity between sub-genres could never lead to a plausible unification.
Well, in the case of Six-Feet-Under's "Haunted"...the old maxim "two great tastes that taste great together" never was so...ummm...TASTY! Chris Barnes (ex-Cannibal Corpse) and Allen West (ex-Obituary) have combined to make a Death Metal unification album for the forever in-between. Gutteral vocals actually DO sound good with mid-tempo bone-blasting chord changes...at least they do when Six Feet Under does it.
If you're a fan of Cannibal Corpse, Sinister, Dismember, or Morbid Angel...ohhh, I bet you'll love this!
If you're a fan of Obituary, Benediction, Entombed, or Carcass...ohhh, I bet you'll love this as well!!!
When you're done listening to this disc, just sit down and smile. Walking around in a daze of appreciation and enlightenment might make others think that you're "Haunted".

| | Six Feet Under Warpath CD (1997)
Haunted CD music
$9.69 For Six Feet Under's second and final album with Allen West on guitar, the group fulfilled its potential, merging Chris Barnes' Godzilla-like growl with West's lumbering, snail-paced riffs. Though Cannibal Corpse fans may still long for a more uptempo set of guitar riffs, West's work really defines this album, making it an interesting variation of his other band, Obituary. Of course, the simplicity of the riffs and their slow pace may just as well inspire criticism as it does celebration, ...

This limited edition version of MAXIMUM VIOLENCE includes a bonus live disc.
With the presence of former Cannibal Corpse frontman Chris Barnes, it was a pretty safe bet that Six Feet Under would epitomize death metal at its most cartoonish, and that proved to be true. Maximum Violence, the group's third full-length album, isn't vastly different from its predecessors -- basically simple riffs alternate between slow and fast tempos, with ridiculously over-the-top vocals spewing tales of death, dismemberment, and other variations on gore and splatter themes. The main problem with the record is its lack of variety, in both style and subject matter -- one gets the impression that any ...

Haunted album
$9.79 Initial pressings of VERSUS THE WORLD will include a bonus disc.
With Versus the World, Amon Amarth return with another terrain flattening, Viking-obsessed death metal platter. Vocalist Johan Hegg alternates between a whispery low rumble and an upper-register shriek, both of which are surprisingly able to render the lyrics quite intelligible at times. What's possibly most impressive about Versus the World is the ebb and flow of the record; there is an engaging variety of moods, ...

From the first grinding notes of the famous vamp that introduces "Whole Lotta Love," LED ZEPPELIN II announces for all to hear that they are the definitive hard rock band of their generation. But before the listener can even settle into the groove, things takes a hard left turn into a spacey new rhythm, exotically flavored by Page's droning feedback and innovative use of a violin bow. By tune's end, Zeppelin has repeatedly toyed with the listener's expectations.
This subversive quality distinguishes most of the arrangements on LED ZEPPELIN II, as in the soft/hard dynamic shifts of "What Is And What Should Never Be," the gospelish mood of "Thank You," the rocking vamps and funk rhythms ...
| | Slayer South Of Heaven CD (1988)
Haunted album
$10.49 With 1986's REIGN IN BLOOD, Slayer reached the pinnacle of its rapid-fire, speed metal style. For the band's next effort, instead of embracing its hardcore roots even further, the band retraced its metal influences, namely Black Sabbath. 1988's SOUTH OF HEAVEN surprised many fans because it contained several mid-paced, dirge-like compositions that spotlighted metal's crunch over punk's reckless energy. Tom Araya's lyrics still addressed controversial subjects, while another piece of gruesome artwork graced the album's cover. Despite it all, Slayer's ardent following embraced the album, eventually propelling SOUTH OF HEAVEN to gold-certification in the U.S.
The twin-guitar team of Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman is again well equipped with an arsenal of killer riffs, while drummer Dave Lombardo shows why many consider him to be one of metal's all-time best. In the past, Araya penned lyrics that dealt with such controversial topics as Nazism (REIGN IN BLOOD's "Angel of Death") and serial killers (SEASONS IN THE ABYSS's "Dead Skin Mask"). Araya continues the trend on SOUTH ...
