It's easy to understand why guitarist Mark Reale decided to break up Riot after their fifth full-length disc, Born in America. The band had stopped progressing after their classic 1981 release, Fire Down Under, and the magic was clearly gone by the time that this offering hit record-store shelves in 1984. The group had gone from trend-setting outsiders to major label flops in the space of three years, due in part to the departure of vocalist Guy Speranza. Replacement Rhett Forrester handles the vocal chores nicely on Born in America, just as he had on his Riot debut,Restless Breed. It's the lackluster, cliché-ridden material -- not Forrester's performances -- that holds this recording down. Only devoted Riot fans should consider this second rate studio effort from one of America's few '80s metal innovators. ~ Vincent Jeffries

Riot Born In America Songs Born In America Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Good, Hard and Loud. Yes good, hard and loud thats right if you like Riot thats the way you want it. However this album is not as polished as their follow up "Restless Breed" it still contains some great songs. First of which is their cover of Cliff Richards 60's classic "Devil Woman". Others are "Born In America", Burn in me" and "Where soldiers rule". RIOT ROCKS Born in America is simply one of those albums that needed to be made. Riot, even with the numerous line-up changes has managed over the years to be one of the most consistent acts (with little press I might add)in Rock. Riot is what rock is about. Riot!!! I agree with the other review. This is a must buy. The beginings of heavy metal of the 80s, this blows away the late 80s metal.. Submitted by a reviewer (Yelm, Wa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
This is the best album ever by RIOT I have been a hard rock fan since 1981. I have listened to a lot of rock bands and RIOT is among the best. This is my favorite album with frontman Forrester on lead vocals who Makes you feel the power of every song most particularly "Born in America, Vigilante Killer. A must buy. Awesome material here! To correct the previous reviewer, Born in America followed Restless Breed. Great album for sure, but without the original album cover. I have japanese version of this cd and still has the original artwork, this one is cheesy. But it is the music that counts and rhett forrester delivers his vocals dynamically. RIOT was a great band, their sound was b4 their time. Although I believe Fire Down Under is their best, you gotta have this album, I saw this tour as well. Since then RIOT has loast both vocalist Guy Speranza to illness, and rhett forrester was murdered in Atlanta as a victum during an armed robbery. Such a shame to loose his great talent. His solo album is definetly worth haveing as well, titled "Gone With The Wind" Submitted by heavennineeleven (SAN DIEGO, CA., USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Principally recorded at Utopia, Basing Street and CBS Studios, London, England in 1978. Includes liner notes by Judas Priest.
Judas Priest's 1979 release, HELL BENT FOR LEATHER (titled KILLING MACHINE in Europe), continued the band's late '70s winning streak, which included such metal classics as SAD WINGS OF DESTINY, SIN AFTER SIN, and STAINED CLASS. Such deliciously heavy tracks as "Delivering the Goods," the title track, the U.K. hit single "Take On the World," and a cover of Fleetwood Mac's "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Pronged Crown)," showed that nobody could touch singer Rob Halford ...

| | Jolly Boys Pop 'N' Mento CD (1989) Import
Born In America album
$10.49 Mento, a forerunner of ska and reggae, combines African rhythms, New Orleans R&B and French folk music.
When Bob Marley was getting set to become a legend, Jimmy Cliff was still more a rude boy than a lounge act, and white attempts at Jamaican music were still in the embarrassing stage, the Jolly Boys had been around for half of forever, playing something older an' sweeter dan yu sister -- mento, a Jamaican variant of calypso. The songs verged on the risqué, the rhythms were really more of a sway than a fat dance. It was music of sun and rum and a lighter, less complicated time -- before the 1962 independence started the ball rolling and made everyone aware of the significance of everything going on. It was a time when songs could be about "dancing back to back, belly to belly," when you could enjoy the loopiness of a song that venerates one's mother ...

| | Friends of Tom Fobluco CD (2009)
Born In America music CDs
$6.69 Friends of Tom incorporate an interesting mix of instrumentation using mandolin, dobro, harmonica, stand up bass, guitar and powerful soulful vocals with an occasional yodel for the WOW factor that distinguishes them from their peers. Their debut CD, FoBluCo, mixes up folk, blues, and country into their unique Americana mix. Or as the CD notes secondarily defines it all: “A sound blending the following ingredients: a pinch of back-woods, a smidgen of back-porch, a dash of delta, with sprinkles of twang.” And that sounds about right, as this music is miles away from the main road and its cosmopolitan music.Guitarist-mandolin-ist Chris Younger wrote seven of these twelve songs (Rob Fedorczyk wrote all the rest, excluding one traditional tune), with Liz Younger providing the vocals and Jim Thompson keeping the groove on standup bass. The best part about this recording is the way the group inserts plenty of great acoustic instrumentation. The Dobro on “Broken Memory Blues”, “East Coast Woman”, and “Bear Bones” stands out, as does the mandolin on “Tell Me Now”, “Just Because”, and “Grateful Ed”. Those who don’t create firm walls between musical styles (country on this side, rock on that side, for instance) will likely appreciate the way Friends of Tom have created a friendly atmosphere for multiple forms to coexist happily togetherSome songs are humorous, as with “East Coast Woman” where a time challenged woman can’t seem to understand the problem of running a “couple of minutes” late. “The Men in My Life” is geared toward musicians where her guitar ...
