| | Blue Cheer Vincebus Eruptum CD Blue Cheer Discography of CDs
(12 Customer Reviews)
This is an Emhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
The thing to remember about Blue Cheer is that when VINCEBUS ERUPTUM came out in 1968, it seemed the height of effrontery until the Stooges showed up and took things even further. Who did these three guys think they were, harshing everyone's mellow with the loudest, noisiest, heaviest guitar thud anybody had ever heard until then, and turning classics like Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues" and Mose Allison's "Parchment Farm" into sludgy, distorted riff-fests? So not only were they arguably the first heavy metal band, but you could also make a case for them being among the first punk rockers.

Uncut (8/03, p.120) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...VINCEBUS ERUPTUM is apocalyptic amp-damage all the way, rumbling, overdriven blues for the end of the world. OUTSIDE IN is more refined, but every bit as brain-blisteringly heavy..." Magnet (p.108) - "[F]or sheer scuzz-rock viscosity, you couldn't beat VINCEBUS ERUPTUM. Thirty-two minutes' worth of proto-metal, proto-punk, proto-Sub Pop skronk -- did we mention scuzz?" There was no Led Zepplin, or, Black Sabbath at this point, AND, MC5's first album wouldn't hit the streets for another year! This is pure unadulterated, smash you in the face rock 'n' roll like no one (at the time of it's original release) had ever heard! Their version of Eddie Cochran's 'Summertime Blues' is worth the price of the cd alone if you've never heard it. These guys were still learning how to play and write here, but, it's a sonic blast like no other, rude, crude, LOUD, and very aggressive in it's feel. Believe it, or, not, much of what they do here is based on the blues. If you want to here what it sounded like when the lid was first taken 'completely' off the rock 'n' roll can of goodies this cd is for you. Thank you Blue Cheer! Great early metal Blue Cheer shines on Rock Me and Out of Focus. This trio epitomizes the early psychodelic venue carried on by such bands as The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Iron Butterfly. Submitted by danejensen2000 (Lewiston, UT) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The very first heavy metal rock band...PERIOD!!!! Before Iron Butterfly, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Motorhead, and any other heavy metal rock band that you can think of, there was the pioneering powerhouse trio known as Blue Cheer up on that stage, pummeling their insturments into oblivion. Blue Cheer consisted of Dickie Peterson (vocals/bass), Leigh Stephens (guitar), and Paul Whalley (drums). These guys may not have been the best band in the world but to them, that wasn't the point. The point was to make as much noise as possible, make it as heavy as possible, and to have fun. Such was the way of their 1968 debut album entitled "Vincebus Eruptum". This, at the time was the heaviest album of the late sixties, containing six attitude filled, howling, crunching staples that included their thunderous rendition of Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues", which became the track that introduced heavy metal music to the world. Taking cues from legendary hard rock acts like The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Who, Cream, and Vanilla Fudge, these guys went a few steps further to create heavy riffs that future bands have been stealing for decades since. Also arguably, Blue Cheer paved the way for bands like The MC5 and The Stooges to create punk rock. I highly recommend this legendary classic. Any fan of heavy metal music will not be sorry! The very first heavy metal rock band...PERIOD!!!! Before Iron Butterfly, Led Zeppelin,
Black Sabbath, Motorhead, and any other heavy metal rock band came along, there was the pioneering powerhouse trio known as Blue Cheer, up on that stage almost pummeling their insturments into oblivion. Their 1968 debut album titled Vincebus Eruptum, layed down the foundation for countless heavy metal rock bands to follow. There were hard rocking bands like The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Who, Cream, and Vanilla Fudge, that were up on the stage making history, but this band took their sound a bit further and harder than their predecessors. These guys may not have been as good as the forementioned bands, but to them, that wasn't the point. The point was to make as much noise as possible, make it as hard as possible, and to have fun. They had even paved the way for the hard rocking punk bands like The MC5, The Stooges, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, and countless others to follow. To sum it all up, Blue Cheer are the pioneers of heavy metal music and there is no denying their place in the history of metal. Case closed!!! Submitted by Nicholas (Litchfield. | | Black Sabbath Sabotage CD (1975)
Vincebus Eruptum music CDs
$8.65 While many hard-core Black Sabbath fans consider 1975's SABOTAGE to be the band's most underrated album, it can also be pointed to as the beginning of the end for the original Osbourne-Iommi-Butler-Ward line-up. Osbourne was starting to feel disillusioned with the group, and the seeds for his highly successful solo career in the '80s were being planted. That said, SABOTAGE was the last Sabbath album to truly contain all of the ...
| | Black Sabbath Technical Ecstasy CD (1976)
Vincebus Eruptum songs
$6.09 By the mid-'70s, a number of problems were threatening to break up the original line-up of Black Sabbath. The stress brought on by lengthy touring, drug use, and alcoholism had begun to dilute the band's original, influential heavy metal. Sabbath began to drift away from the straight-ahead power rock of such classic albums as PARANOID and SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH, as evidenced by its final two albums to ...
| | Black Sabbath Paranoid CD (1971)
Vincebus Eruptum album
$8.59 PARANOID proved to be Black Sabbath's most focused, consistent, and successful record. Leaving behind the amorphous, extended jams of their debut for focused songs and a more structured sound, Black Sabbath virtually wrote the book on heavy metal with the ominous, unforgettable riffs, thunderous rhythms, and dark themes on this release. There are some up-tempo rockers, ...

$6.09 By the end of the '70s, though Black Sabbath remained a top concert draw, its albums had become increasingly erratic and sub-par when compared to its earlier master works. For the first time in quite a while, the pianist is heard entirely in a trio setting, flanked by bassist Eric Revis and drummer Nasheet Waits (with Philly veteran Edgar Bateman replacing Waits on two tracks). The rhythmic simpatico of the group is gripping, ...
| | Kaki King Legs To Make Us Longer CD (2004)
Vincebus Eruptum album
$9.89 Based on the meditative, space-filled opener, "Frame," listeners might associate King's work with the moody, avant-garde ambient jazz often found on the ECM label. The comparison is an apt one--King spins atmospheric landscapes from her fretboard, whether via nimble finger-picking (the spiraling melodies on "Doing the Wrong Thing") or the mathematical, push-pull patterns of "Solipsist." Regardless ...
