Quicksand forge out a dense, metallic grind that sounds like a more streamlined version of Fugazi. The band's debut, Slip, relies more on metal than punk, but that makes the music all the more effective -- the group's attempts at punky fury simply aren't as strong as their brutal, gut-level heavy riff-rockers. Vocalist Walter Schreifels spews out enough angst-ridden lyrics, but what is important is how his voice fits into the dense wall of sound. Quicksand's music is about powerful anger, and the persistent, bludgeoning Slip delivers the goods. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Entertainment Weekly (3/19/93, p.63) - "...Quicksand is derivative, but at least its operative influences--Helmet and Fugazi--are highly agreeable ones..." - Rating: B Slip Music Review Average Rating: (4.2 out of 5 stars) nice This album was so beutiful i makes me cry to listen to it. One of the great hardcore cds of the 90s. Even with the explosion of emo, hardcore, and postpunk happening almost a decade after they broke up, Quicksand are still overlooked at every turn. Tracks like "Head To Wall" and "Slip" are essential post-hardcore, and sound surprisingly relevant and fresh in today's oversaturated market. When it comes to jagged guitar and aggressive songwriting, Quicksand wrote the book, and this album is the proof. Recommended for fans of Helmet, Clutch, Soundgarden, and Hum. Not by any means derivitive Those who claim that this CD is derivitive of Helmet and Fugazi have missed the bus completly.
Slip is the best release these folks have, and it is nothing short of great. 1 part Emo, 1 part Post hard core, it belongs with Helmet and Fugazi, but not underneath. This album holds it's own just fine, thank you.
Heavy, drop-d tuning, but not garbage like so many other drop-d bands. The entire record is off time and mixed up; there's almost no 4-4 timing on the whole cd. Moving, powerful, perfectly written. the vocals are tearing, heartfelt and strong. Submitted by Andrew G agable (Cincinnati, OH USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$9.59 ABOUT THE DISC:A concept album following the lives of one family across 65 years. Recorded in 2003/2004 with musicians Jason Harbour, Patrick Costello, Mark Dorman, and Mikey Harbour, at Grey Havens Studios. Mixed and Mastered at Db Studios with Dave Skinner. BIOGRAPHY:written by D. Lang & GreyGrey blends the psychedelic, progressive, acoustic, and alternative stylings of Rush, Yes, the Beatles, the Doors, and Pink floyd to create a unique rock and pop sound sometimes compared to that of Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, Phish, and David Bowie. He has released the following CDs: Words & Music, Grey's Christmas Memories, Anamnesis, Rock & Pop, Colours, Faded Colours, Faded Colours II, and these now out-of-print live recordings: Live at Pegasys, and Acoustic Grey. Grey began writing songs in 1981 while still a high school student. He played in the band Elixir that opened for Ritchie Havens at the Myriad in 1983. He later played in the Blithering Idiots while stationed in Germany in the late 80's, early 90's. During the original Colours recordings, Grey lived in Toulouse, France, having teamed up with Yvan "Doc" Mirouse and J.C. Nogues. They needed an English vocalist for their 'Milo' project. In the summer of 1993 at Studio Queenriver and Filataires' Cellar, Grey and "Doc" recorded and mixed Colours. Colours was originally released on mp3 in March of 2000. Due to the success of Colours, Grey decided in February of 2001 to release his musical evolutionary albums Faded Colours I and II, songs that were written previous to Colours (1981 - 1992) and aside from "Farewell to Arms" and 'Song of a Broken Glass" the tracks were recorded while Grey lived in Landstuhl, Germany. In the summer of 2001, television producer, Timothy Eck, offered to ...
