Kiss' penchant for make-up was inspired by their downtown New York neighbors the New York Dolls and by Alice Cooper, who was on top of the glam-rock world when Kiss' self-titled debut came out in 1974. Rather than dress in drag as the Dolls did, Kiss fashioned their look on a mix of sci-fi and horror films, and the rock & roll of their youth. They fashioned their music on willful hard-rock arrogance. Several songs on KISS became staples in the group's catalog. "Strutter," about a beautiful woman with a confident swagger, mirrored the attitude of the band, and it contained the first of many incendiary Ace Frehley solos.
The album also contains "Cold Gin," Ace's signature song; "Deuce," with its quintessential sexual posturing and fiery soloing; and "Black Diamond," Paul Stanley's epic tribute to a streetwalker with a hardscrabble life. Kiss' hunger to succeed resulted in some interesting recording choices, such as transforming teen idol Bobby Rydell's "Kissin' Time" into a stomper with singalong choruses typical of early-'70s pop. There's even an instrumental, "Love Theme From Kiss," a showcase for the quartet's musical synchronicity. It was the beginning of a long and influential career.

Kiss Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews The start of it all Well heavy metal/hard rock fans, here it is, the start of it all for KISS. The songs on this album are timeless as evidenced by the fact that most of them are still played live today by the band. While the production leaves a lot to be desired you can't deny the fact that the songs are there. Too often KISS gets dogged for being just a show or a gimmick. But at the end of the day, gimmicks fade away, these songs are the cake underneath the frosting. My personal fav's are Strutter, Black Diamond, 100,000 Years, Firehouse and Let Me Know. This is a classic album anyway you slice it.
Carry the flag high my friends!

Kiss album
$6.49 Released in late 1974, HOTTER THAN HELL was the second of four albums Kiss would release in a two-year span. Adorned with a kabuki-inspired cover (which helped spark their huge appeal in Japan), the album is filled with tightly written songs packed with sex and attitude. Die-hard fans immediately associated these songs with certain members of the band. "Parasite" and "Strange Ways" are two early Ace Frehley tours de force, while Gene Simmons's offerings include the suggestive "All The Way" and "Watchin' You."
Of the criminally overlooked material on HOTTER THAN HELL, two songs stand out in particular. The rare Stanley/Frehley collaboration "Comin' Home," and "Goin' Blind," a song reputedly written while Simmons and Stanley were in their pre-Kiss band Wicked Lester and originally called "Little Lady." Despite this album's poor initial sales, the phenomenon known as Kiss would explode by the end of the following year. The album is a cornerstone in the early part of their legacy.

| | Kiss Dressed To Kill CD (1975) Remastered
Kiss CD music
$6.49 Digitally remastered by Joseph M. Palmaccio at Sterling Sound, NYC.
By 1975, Kiss' songs of sex, fun and rock and and roll had gained the band a loyal following thirsting for more. With their third album, Kiss did not disappoint.
The ribald and rollicking "Room Service" kicks things off with a nudge and a wink; it's about getting more than just fresh towels from the front desk. The rest of DRESSED TO KILL continues down that road, whether it's Gene Simmons singing of "moving down the line/the ladies are all looking fine" or Paul Stanley describing a tryst with an exotic dancer who spotted his picture in a magazine. While his bandmates naughtily sang of the fairer sex, Ace Frehley was inspiring legions of fledgling guitarists.
Two songs on DRESSED TO KILL come closest to showing why Kiss meant so much to teenagers. Frehley strikes a chord with "Getaway," a fantasy about trying to escape despite being flat broke. And the great rock anthem "Rock And Roll All Nite" is pure fulfillment--this was the exact destination their fans were trying to escape to. Re-released in a live version only months later, "Rock And Roll All Nite" became Kiss' first top-40 single, providing the springboard to the enormous success awaiting them in the following two years.

| | Kiss Destroyer CD (1976) Remastered
Kiss music CDs
$7.85 Digitally remastered by Joseph M. Palmaccio at Sterling Sound, New York, New York.
Before DESTROYER, Kiss' studio albums were only moderate sellers. But the band's concerts were selling out regularly, and 1975's ALIVE! album had gone gold, putting Kiss on the pop map. DESTROYER, on which they teamed with Alice Cooper producer Bob Ezrin, was the breakthrough that finally got Kiss' grandiose rock ideas down on record.
DESTROYER is a chancy, ambitious album. It opens with a radio announcer reporting a teen's death in a car crash, followed by a snippet of "Rock And Roll All Nite" (which had appeared on 1975's DRESSED TO KILL); then the band launches into "Detroit Rock City," an homage to the first city to make them stars. "Great Expectations" features ornate orchestration, a heavenly chorus and a guitar tone that exposes the band's glam-rock ambitions. DESTROYER also includes a ready-made rock anthems ("Shout It Out Loud"), a swipe at manipulative groupies ("Do You Love Me," which is punched up with tubular bells) and a foreboding song about "the lord of the wasteland" that became Gene Simmons' signature tune ("God Of Thunder").
And then there is "Beth," an uncharacteristic ballad, sung and co-written by drummer Peter Criss. The lush strings and delicate piano gave Kiss a Top-10 hit and a greater fan base. Soon would come a TV Movie ("Kiss Meets The Phantom Of The Park") and a comic book.
Recorded at The Record Plant, New York, New York. Includes liner notes by Robert V. Conte.

| | Kiss Rock And Roll Over CD (1976) Remastered
Kiss songs
$6.49 Digitally remastered by Joseph M. Palmaccio (Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
ROCK AND ROLL OVER finds Kiss at its sleekest and most pop-oriented. Fresh from the thundering success of DESTROYER, the band turned out an album jammed with brisk, mostly up-tempo numbers, among which are included some of Kiss's most memorable hits. ROCK AND ROLL OVER was part of a transitional period for Kiss, between the sleazy, more conventional rock of their earlier efforts (HOTTER THAN HELL, DRESSED TO KILL) and the otherworldly, apocalyptic pomp of this album and their other, previous '76 release DESTROYER.
"Hard Luck Woman" became a veritable anthem--sung by Peter Criss, this mid-tempo, largely acoustic number displayed a disarming vulnerability. "Calling Dr. Love" became a signature tune for Gene Simmons--pounding, swooping, and totally lascivious--that's our Gene. Also of note is "I Want You," another instant classic, its start-and-stop dynamics and quintessential Ace Frehley solo (all swagger and scales) making it a defining moment for the group.

| | Kiss Love Gun CD (1977) Remastered
Kiss album
$6.69 Digitally remastered by Joseph M. Palmaccio at Sterling Sound, New York, New York.
Kiss had exploded from cult attraction to worldwide phenomenon by the time of LOVE GUN's release. Coming off 1976's classic ROCK AND ROLL OVER, LOVE GUN proved to be the last Kiss album to include all four original band members (1979's DYNASTY and 1980's UNMASKED included a fill-in drummer for Peter Criss). The album is also considered to be Kiss' last classic '70s release.
Several tracks became signature favorites, such as the album-opening "I Stole Your Love," the explosive title track, and "Shock Me" which is Ace Frehley's very first vocal appearance. As is the case with the other great Kiss albums of the era, LOVE GUN contains very little filler--"Christine Sixteen," "Almost Human," and "Plaster Caster" are all oft-overlooked highlights. An excellent effort produced by Eddie Kramer, LOVE GUN continued the trend of the band's albums going platinum upon release, Kiss concerts consistently selling out, and t-shirts of the unsightly grease-painted mugs of Ace, Gene, Paul, and Peter being worn by fans everywhere.

| | Kiss Dynasty CD (1979)
Kiss CD music
$6.49 For many of the faithful, DYNASTY marks a turning point in the Kiss story. Their first release after the members' solo albums, it was their last outing with drummer Peter Criss (he was on the cover of UNMASKED, but not the tracks within), and Ace Frehley's departure wasn't far off. DYNASTY is an album of some bombast, with slick production, the inevitable nod to disco ("I Was Made For Loving You"), a Stones cover ("2000 Man") and plenty of their trademark hard rock/pop hybrid.
Definitely a softer take on the Kiss sound, this was a harbinger of what the '80s would hold for the band--a more radio-friendly style. With the catchy echoing chorus of "Charisma" and the wistful strut of "Magic Touch," Kiss evolved past the Neanderthal stomp of yesteryear and into a new age of slick, sophisticated, and ultimately more lucrative pop mastery.

| | Rage Against The Machine Renegades CD (2000) Bonus Tracks
Kiss songs
$18.65 Principally recorded at Cello Studios, Hollywood, California and The Village Recorder, Los Angeles, California.
"Renegades Of Funk" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance.
Australian contains the bonus tracks "Kick Out The Jams" and "How I Could Just Kill A Man."
Seemingly due to the hasty departure of vocalist Zach De La Rocha, what had originally been intended as a second disc complementing a live set finds its solo release in RENEGADES. Originally born in the lighthearted spirit of cover albums such as Metallica's GARAGE DAYS series, RENEGADES is an assembly of interpretations of protest songs that spans many musical styles.
From the funk treatment of the obscure "Pistol Grip Pump" (originally recorded by Volume 10), to the slowed-down, stomping groove of the MC5's "Kick Out the Jams," there is seemingly no song the band can't transform and make their own. Identifying closely with Rage Against The Machine's political ideals are Afrika Bambaataa's "Renegades of Funk," and the previously single-only cover of Bruce Springsteen's "The Ghost of Tom Joad." In what fans might optimistically interpret as a hint of what is to follow, two hidden live tracks round out RENEGADES' 60-plus minute assault.
Australian pressing of the final studio album from Rage Against The Machine, originally released in 2000, features two bonus tracks: 'Kick Out The Jams' and 'How I Could Just Kill A Man'. Sony.
Additional personnel includes: Sen Dog, B-Real (rap vocals).
Producers: Rick Rubin, Rage Against The Machine, Brendan O'Brien.
Engineers: Jim Scott, David Schiffman, Nick DiDia.
Rage Against The Machine: Zack De La Rocha (vocals); Tom Morello (guitar); Tim Commerford (bass); Brad Wilk (drums).

| | Guy Bergeron Last Of The Hip White Boys CD (2002)
Kiss CD music
$12.15 About the MusicThese guitar-propelled tunes are typically tinted on the blue side, musically speaking. Elements of Blues and the occasional Hillbilly Twang are nailed together with a Rock sensibility.Influences include BB King, Lowell George, John Prine, Cake, BTO, JJ Cale, T Rex...but some of this mess I take full responsibility for. Here are some excerpts from recent reviews of my material:DEMORAMA'S TOP HONORS "KICKERS OF ASS" LIST FOR 2002, REVIEW BY LUIS FISKE: "Bergeron deftly carries both the bluesman look and the sound. With a solid voice that's a combo of David Clayton-Thomas, Springsteen (sans the pretentiousness) and his own stylings, Bergeron nimbly handles a variety of sounds, touching on jazz, blues, folk, country and intelligent pop."SPARECHANGE MAGAZINE'S LADY K, LIVIN IN THE VALLEY REVIEW: "Vocally and musically, he fits this (blues) genre like a key into a lock. If you like bands like the Fabulous Thunderbirds, be sure to give this guy a listen."MUSES MUSE REVIEWER STACEY BOARD: "Guy's bio says he is a native of Massachusetts but someone must be UPSing him some grits and gravy. This east coast man has more than his share of twang and blues in his music."Listen for some of Guy's tunes in upcoming MTV shows, "Made" and "Trailer Fabulous". Also, Guy will be booking a ton of acoustic gigs in 2010 across New England, hope to see you out there.
| | Dollar Store Money Music CD (2007)
Kiss music CDs
$12.39 Comprised of two members of the Waco Brothers and featuring pedal steel behemoth Jon Rauhouse, Dollar Store could easily have coasted on their collective reputations and won over the Bloodshot crowd with minimal effort. Instead, the band dashes any such notions of a sophomore slump with this near masterpiece of highway choruses, hollered harmonies, blue-collar bile, and lightning guitar filth that place the band somewhere between X and Lynyrd Skynyrd. MONEY MUSIC (2007) is what Bloodshot was born for: musicians tackling rootsy music with the abandon and economy of the best punk rock.
Personnel: Dean Schlabowske (vocals, guitar, organ); Joe Camarillo (vocals, drums); Alan Doughty (vocals).
