Slang songs Product Information
Recorded in Spain and Fine Bow Lane Studios, Dublin, Ireland. With '80s hard rock all but dead and gone by the mid-'90s, Def Leppard rethought their approach and resurfaced with 1996's SLANG. The indulgences that rocketed Leppard to the top of the charts a decade earlier were stripped away as the veteran band attempted to stay in step with the new alternative rock acts. ...See Full Description

||Making perfect sense with slang!|
I'm so happy to be one of those enlightened people who don't live their lives stuck in a time-warp. For a short time, Def Leppard defied those fans who wanted them to be stuck in 1987 forever, and in 1996 released the outstanding 'Slang'. 'Pyromania' and 'Hysteria' were the pinnacle of Def Leppard's career, having created and perfected a sound which defined '80's hard rock. However, with the release of 'Adrenalize' in the early '90's, Def Leppard, got away with murder, that is, they were still milking their '80's sound for all that it was worth, during a time when rock'n'roll was changing its sound at a rapid pace. I personally found 'Adrenalize' borderline good, because I heard it all before on their last two albums. When 'Slang' came out, I was jumping for joy - I could not believe DL could re-invent themselves in a way which not only matched the musical styles of the mid-90's, but actually surpassed them. The melodies on 'Slang' are so intricate, involving, and powerful. The lyrics are so thoughful and intelligent. Yes, many of the songs are sad or dark, but they're so beautiful. I can go on about how amazing the songs on 'Slang' each are, but I won't - buy the album and listen for yourselves! When it comes to creativity, 'Slang' is neck and neck with 'Hysteria'. Unfortunately, I can't say many good things about their more recent albums. Antony Aristovoulou

I bought this soon after it was released. I could tell right away this was going to be different from their traditional style and that's fine. I don't understand what some fans didn't like about this album. Have they heard of a thing called "creativity"?? I guess some people are just predisposed to saying something "sucks" if if doesn't sound the way THEY think it should. The band was looking for something fresh, and they accomplished it with Slang. If you think every Def Leppard album is supposed to sound exactly like Hysteria, then I guess Slang will disappoint you. However, if you are not living in the past and can welcome a fresh change of pace once in a while, don't hesitate to get Slang. Great ballads and some killer rockers. A fun and exciting album!

||The Best album of the 90s.|
I'm serious,this is the best album of the 90's. It's Edgy, with a distinct sound ,artistic, Grundge, and it sounds like Def Leppard. It has really aged well over the past decade, (more so than Hysteria), and I think if it was released in 1994 instead of 1996 it would have been a huge success.
