Having returned from the edge of obscurity with the ambitious concept album 2112 and years of almost non-stop touring, Rush decided to buy themselves a little time with a double live album. Recorded in 1976 in front of a hometown Toronto audience, ALL THE WORLD'S A STAGE is the first of what would become a Rush tradition: following every fourth studio album with a live one as a way of closing out a chapter in the band's history.
The set kicks off with a pair of hard rocking numbers, "Bastille Day" and "Anthem," that pack more power than would be expected from a trio. "2112" proves that this still young band was more than just muscle; the abridged version heard here still clocks in at over 15 minutes. From their second album, "By-Tor And The Snow Dog" is the band's first attempt at a multi-part opus, weaving a fanciful story around an extended jam that recalls their earliest days as a bar band banging out Cream tunes. The album closes out with four songs from their debut. Taken as a whole, ALL THE WORLD shows how far Rush had come in the previous three years and hints at what was to come.
Recorded live at Massey Hall, Toronto, Canada between June 11 & 13, 1976.
Rush: Geddy Lee (vocals, synthesizers, bass); Alex Lifeson (guitar); Neil Peart (drums, percussion).

All The World's A Stage Music Rush All The World's A Stage Songs All The World's A Stage Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews A must have for all Rush Fans... This is absolutely one of the best mid seventies live albums. It really captures Rush in what I think was their rawest form (very little keyboard). The musicianship is awesome and the sound is great! As Rush puts it in the CD cover write-up, this album truly ends the first chapter of Rush! This is a must have for any Rush fan. Submitted by shredsix (Corona, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Rush'a first live album I remember when this came out, double lp in a double gatefold. The best of Rush(pretty much)at that time. The music is loud and raw. The way a live album should be.I actually prefer this version of By-Tor and the Snow Dog over the original. The only beef I ever had about this album is that they omitted Oracle, the Dream from 2112. recorded during the 2112 tour, this is one of my favorite live albums of the 70's. I wish they would have done the Necromancer live and also included Passage to Bangkok. Still, a great live album! Submitted by Darryl (Fulton, MO and Pensacola, FL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Live and Raw! I first heard this back in mid-1982,and I was awestruck! This live album gives you the feeling of actually being at the show,as most live album's from the 70's did! Even today, I can still listen to this, and not get bored with it! You need this! Submitted by jason (modesto,ca.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

All The World's A Stage
$6.75 The opening chords of "Finding My Way" signal the beginning of a song, album, and career that would have a permanent place in rock history. The debut album from the Canadian progressive metal outfit features drummer John Rutsey who, although a talented drummer, would quit after this album to be replaced by Neal Peart. Peart contributed to the band's songwriting progression and use of time changes.
Out of the eight songs here, four are considered Rush classics. "Finding My ...

All The World's A Stage
$6.49 Rush's sophomore release FLY BY NIGHT has become a milestone in their recording career. Although such future releases as 2112, HEMISPHERES, PERMANENT WAVES, and MOVING PICTURES would be superior albums, FLY BY NIGHT signaled a change from Led Zep blues-rock to more original and challenging material. But most important of all, FLY BY NIGHT was drummer/lyricist Neil Peart's first recording with the band. Peart had replaced original member John Rutsey just in time for Rush's inaugural U.S. tour, and became an integral member by the time of FLY BY NIGHT's recording.
Several early Rush classics can be found here. "Anthem" is a barnstorming opener merging a memorable, repetitive guitar riff with positive lyrics, while ...
| | Rush Caress Of Steel CD (1975) Remastered
All The World's A Stage
$6.49 After building up a cult following with years of non-stop touring, Rush nearly lost their fans with CARESS OF STEEL. Taking their cue from British bands like Yes and Genesis, they began to expand their sound beyond that of a typical power trio. Gone were the riff-based songs and extended jams, replaced with more intricate arrangements, multi-part songs and deeper, introspective lyrics. Ironically, it was these elements ...
| | Rush Farewell To Kings CD (1977) Remastered
All The World's A Stage
$6.49 Taking a cue from other art-rock groups like Yes and Genesis, Rush expressed a penchant for fantasy and science fiction themes on A FAREWELL TO KINGS. Coupling the increasingly intricate arrangements of Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson with the creative lyrics of Neil Peart, the power trio format is stretched beyond recognition on epic tracks like the sensational "Xanadu," a masterful re-telling of Kubla Kahn's "Pleasure Dome" along the river Alph.
KINGS also introduced a more lyrical side of the group with "Closer To The Heart," a work of sheer beauty that would become a concert mainstay. The lesser-known rocker "Cinderella Man" and the graceful "Madrigal" ...
