Grace Under Pressure was the first Rush album since 1975's Fly by Night to not be produced by Terry Brown, who was replaced by Peter Henderson (Supertramp, Paul McCartney). The change resulted in a slightly more accessible sound than its predecessor, Signals, and marked the beginning of a period where many Rush fans feel that synths and electronics were used too prominently -- in effect pushing guitarist Alex Lifeson into the background. The songwriting and lyrics were still strong however, as evidenced by the video/single "Distant Early Warning" (a tale about nuclear war) and the often-overlooked highlight "Kid Gloves," one of the album's few songs to feature Lifeson upfront. Other standouts include a tribute to a friend of the band who had recently passed away, "Afterimage," the disturbing "Red Sector A" (which details a concentration camp), and one of Rush's first funk-based songs, "The Enemy Within." Whereas most other rock bands formed in the 1970s put out unfocused and uninspired work in the 1980s (which sounds very dated), Rush's Grace Under Pressure remains an exception. ~ Greg Prato
After an extensive search for a producer, Rush struck gold with Peter Henderson. The band shared production duties with him, and completed the album within a few months. The continuous use of synthesizers and keyboards that began on the previous album, SIGNALS, is prominent here. Although Alex Lifeson's guitar always plays a key role, it's obvious the group could not shy away from the advancing technology in rock music in 1984.
The first single, "Distant Early Warning" is an excellent track that exudes a bleakness persistent throughout the record. "Afterimage" continues this dark outlook; the song is about a close friend of the band who dies in a car accident. "The Enemy Within" shows that fear is within us as opposed to being created externally and features the usual technical proficiency of drummer Neal Peart. Album closer "Between The Wheels" is a gloomy number about pressure and showcases Alex Lifeson's creative chord work. Underneath all the dark content in GRACE, there is a theme of hope. The band was considering breaking up at this point, and luckily didn't. The record features the trio's consistently tight musicianship and the keyboards enhance the songs instead of overshadowing them. Another fine record by the Canadian maestros.

4 stars It will grow on you.
Not a bad album. I did not see the tour for this album, but wish I did. They played Between the Wheels during the Feedback tour and it was great. I am stuck between the 2112 album up to Signals as my favorites. Red Sector A is classic and they play on tour all the time. I love the keyboards on Rush songs, so more the better for. The rating of a four is a weak four.

5 stars Flawless?
This is simply one of my favorite Rush albums. It could be argued that they were beginning to get too involved with synthesizers, and away from their more "pure" guitar/bass/drum compositions. They are still hard-edged. But I think the mixture is pretty pleasing, and the keyboards aren't cute-sounding or too overdone (like in some later songs). All the songs on this album are memorable, and I think brilliant. It's almost like a concept album; some sort of post-disaster, eerie theme.

5 stars Quite Possibly The Best Rush Album!
I've been a Rush fan since I was 13. Back in 1995 I went out to collect all the Rush albums. This is one that can keep a teenagers attention all the way through. Play it while playing a video game.

Helio Sequence BiographyThe Helio Sequence is a band. You can sing along to their music. You can dance to their music. You can even fall in love to their music. You can't really play air guitar to their music though...but that's OK. (You'll have to listen to their music to understand it...I won't waste your time or tickle your fancy with colorful expletives.) AND...The Helio Sequence is not just any normal band (here's the catch)...it's a duo!! This means that there are only two members. (Yes, they perform this way live.) Their names are Brandon Summers and Benjamin Weikel. They're both rather handsome, intelligent, witty, outgoing and artsy young men who are a healthy 22 and 25, respectively. Brandon enjoys reading obscure foreign literature and poetry, playing stringed instruments (even the banjo), and a lot of other nonsense. Benjamin is big into computers, digital instruments, and all the other vices of our modern technological existence. Both young men live in one of the most unanimously agreed upon "cool" places in the United States of America: Portland, OR. Brandon sings (very often screams) and plays guitar (very, very often too loudly) in the band. Benjamin deals in the black magic of sequencing keyboards and he plays the drums to the brink of destruction. The two B's first began making music together during the heady idealism of adolescence. AND...after nearly one decade, one self released EP, two indie full-length albums, a tour with an ex-member of Metallica (yes, really) among others, and numerous sub-atomic explosions, they're still going. Brandon and Benjamin still believe in good, honest music. Thank you for listening. The Helio Sequence: Brandon Summers (vocals, guitar); Benjamin Weikil (keyboards, drums, background vocals).
Personnel: Brandon Summers (vocals, guitar, background vocals); Benjamin Weikel (vocals, ...

For more than a decade, Reid Genauer has built his name and reputation, and experienced a substantial amount of success both on the road and in the studio. Yet like so many performers, he has found that success in these two arenas are in some ways mutually exclusive. "Performing and recording are two very different beasts" Genauer explains. But with his and the Assembly of Dust's new disc, The Honest Hour-an album recorded live and with an ear and mind toward song craft-Genauer seamlessly melds the two and uniquely bridges that gap once and for all. The highly anticipated release hits streets on September 14, 2004 on Hybrid Recordings. The disc's nine songs are a mix of new AOD songs and reimagined versions of songs Genauer wrote for his former band, Strangefolk. Culled from a show in Troy, NY in early 2004, The Honest Hour, the band's spirited sophomore disc, boasts both the open-sky breeziness and energy of a live show, but also the pristine production of a studio album."We approached this as if we were playing a studio album live," says Genauer, the band's main lyricist. "The distinction really comes down to three things: song selection, performance-because we chose the songs in a more succinct and album-like way-and how it was mixed and mastered." Genauer rightly adds, "I think that if you took out all of the crowd noise, people would not know this was performed in a live setting."The Honest Hour arrives just a year after the Assembly of Dust's self-titled debut, and this latest release documents the start of a highly prolific songwriting period that Genauer and keyboardist Nate Wilson ...
