Scorpions: Klaus Meine (vocals); Rudolf Schenker, Matthias Jabs (guitar); Francis Buchholz (bass); Herman Rarebell (drums). Recorded at Dierks Studios, Cologne, Germany. This title contains an edited cover. Personnel: Rudolf Schenker (vocals, guitar, background vocals); Klaus Meine (vocals, background vocals); Matthias Jabs (guitar); Francis Buchholz (Moog synthesizer, bass guitar); Herman Rarebell (drums). Audio Mixers: Dieter Dierks; Gerd Rautenbach; Scorpions. Recording information: Dierks Studios, Cologne, Germany. Photographer: Helmut Newton. Unknown Contributor Role: Francis Buchholz. Arrangers: Dieter Dierks; Scorpions. Although the Scorpions had already achieved fame after 1982's Blackout, Love at First Sting brought them their biggest single of the decade, the slick anthem "Rock You Like a Hurricane," with some greatly underrated songs to back it up. The album opens with the hair-raising "Bad Boys Running Wild" and continues with songs such as the memorable "Big City Nights" and the half-ballad, half-powerhouse rocker "Coming Home." The record also contains what just may be the band's best ballad ever, the tear-jerking "Still Loving You." Considering the fact that it has some of their best-ever singles, Love at First Sting is definitely a must for all fans of the Scorpions. ~ Barry Weber

I first bought this album when I was 14 in "84. The first song I played was "Rock You Like A Hurricane" and "Big City Nights". I was at a loss for words when I heard these two songs. I remember playing them over and over again. This made the whole record sound great. If I were to rate this it would be 100 stars. Submitted by motleycrue_kickstartmyheart (Sault Ste. Want 80's metal? This is the stuff. Along with Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and a few others, the Scorpions are right up there with the best Heavy Metal bands ever.
Love at First Sting is one of my favorite albums because it has a rare mix. It has hardcore metal riffs that so many of us are in love with, but also depth in sound and lyrics.
If you want an example of 1980's Heavy Metal, it doesn't really get much better than this. Submitted by redskinStu (Alberta, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Fantastic end of an era In retrospect, had all of us known what was to come at the time, I think we would have all appreciated this last of the truly great Scorpions productions even more than we did
(which might have been impossible). The overwhelming brilliance of the big tracks (Bad Boys Runnin' Wild, Rock You Like a Hurricane, Coming Home, Big City Nights, and perhaps the best rock ballad ever done, Still Lovin' You) that propelled Scorps into the popular and commercial rock stratosphere speak for themselves. Less noticeable and more regrettable is the mediocrity of the remainder of the tracks. While still decent, they are an obvious step down in quality not seen previously from Scorpions. It signalled from an artistic standpoint that Scorpions had reached their pinnacle of creative expression. Given that they had been producing at a top level for almost a decade and were spending most of that time touring the world at a frantic pace, I suppose it was inevitable at some point. Nobody likes to see the beloved hero fall, and Scorps took their first faltering steps with tracks like I'm Leaving You, Same Thrill, As Soon As the Good Times Roll, and Crossfire. Where are the catchy rhythms, driving energy, climaxing melodies, and the tight, sparkling riffs? With only a few exceptions, you have to go back to the early years of Scorps to find anything this artistically bland. All that said, LAFS is still a hallowed classic and a must-have for any serious hard rock fan. Submitted by Paul (Seguin, TX, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Scorpions introduction to mainstream radio !!! I personally dislike this album because this album introduced our german friends to mainstream rock radio. The album was great in a musical sense, but led to the eventual downfall of the Scorpions. The album is very powerful because they use their studio time wisely. Not as good as the Uli years but worth listening to Submitted by pearldude90 (Washington,NC,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Judas Priest: Rob Halford (vocals); Glenn Tipton, K.K. Downing (guitar); Ian Hill (bass); Dave Holland (drums). Digitally remastered by Jon Astley. The last quality album from Judas Priest's commercial period, Defenders of the Faith doesn't quite reach the heights of British Steel or Screaming for Vengeance, in part because it lacks a standout single on the level of those two records' best material. That said, even if there's a low percentage of signature songs here, there's a remarkably high percentage of hidden gems waiting to be unearthed, making Defenders possibly the most underrated record in Priest's catalog. Musically, it follows the basic blueprint of Screaming for Vengeance, alternating intricate speed rockers with fist-pumping midtempo grooves and balancing moderate musical sophistication with commercial accessibility. It's a ...

Dio: Ronnie James Dio (vocals, keyboards); Vivian Campbell (guitar); Jimmy Bain (keyboards, bass); Vinny Appice (drums). Recorded at Sound City Studios, Los Angeles, California. After playing a major role in five positively classic heavy metal albums of the late '70s and early '80s (three with Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and two with Black Sabbath), it seemed that singer Ronnie James Dio could truly do no wrong. So it wasn't all that surprising -- impressive, but not surprising -- when he struck gold yet again when launching his solo vehicle, Dio, via 1983's terrific Holy Diver album. Much like those two, hallowed Sabbath LPs, Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules, Holy Diver opened at full metallic throttle with the frenetic "Stand Up and Shout," before settling into a dark, deliberate, ...
| | Dio Last In Line CD (1984)

$7.29 DIO: Ronnie James Dio (vocals, keyboards); Vivian Campbell (guitar); Claude Shnell (keyboards); Jimmy Bain (bass); Vinny Appice (drums). Following the extremely warm reception given his self-named band's well-deserving debut album, Holy Diver, Ronnie James Dio figured there was no point in messing with a winning formula, and decided to play it safe with 1984's sophomore effort, The Last in Line -- with distinctly mixed results. Although technically cut from the same cloth as those first album nuggets, fist-pumping new songs like "We Rock," and "I Speed at Night" curiously went from good to tiresome after just a few spins (a sign that the songwriting clichés were starting to pile up...read on); and the otherwise awesome, seven-minute epic, "Egypt (The ...
