thankyou...carry on! by reisa gerber
okay... i am trying to write a review that does not sound like "heckling" or "stalking". that lets his fans know how I wanna dance right now, but that I wanted to review this "best hits of 1978-88" and sound "good stuff"... ISH... right? This is a compendium of about whuzzuuh over ten or eleven songs that are such a "b-i-t-c-h" of a repetoire in process, and don't seem to mean... anything! but... he seems to have it together, as in "i need a lover who won't drive me crazy"... "my MIND is the difference... " honey, kindred sweetheart, puttin' that on ME... " and that, of course, is just a little bit... blurb... " that could dam ruin everything with one loss of temper... and that is my lucky star... in terms of "... YEAH... GET OUT OF HERE... " and "OKAY... GET IT TOGETHER AND SAY IT AGAIN"....

John Mellencamp's hits are all here. He knows how to write one hell of a song. Not bad for a guy from central Indiana.

Best That I Could Do 1978-1988 album for sale THE VERY BEST OF includes a 46-page booklet with pictures and track information. "Hole In The World" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. The Eagles' founders Don Henley and Glenn Frey were forthright in their desire to bring then-emerging country rock to new heights of commercial success. Formed in Los Angeles in 1971, they learned from their observations of the scene around them, and subsequently took their music to the top of the charts. They stayed there throughout the '70s, becoming synonymous with the sound of Southern California rock. The band's first hit was with a song by Jackson Browne, and their first album also included a cover of "Ol' 55" by Tom Waits, but the bulk of the material they're known for was penned by Henley and Frey. This two-disc set wisely expands the original VERY BEST OF collection with important album tracks that have also long been band staples and favorites (such as the aforementioned Waits tune and a number of other songs from their pre-platinum first three releases). As is often the common industry-wide practice, there's also a new song, "Hole in the World." A 2-CD retrospective from the multiplatinum superstars whose 1976 "Greatest Hits" is the #1 album of all time! Special Limited Edition bonus DVD included with a music video, outtakes from the video and backstage pass to Farewell 1. Initial pressings included a bonus DVD. Recorded between 1972 & 2003. Best That I Could Do 1978-1988 songs Detroit has produced more than its share of great music: from jazz stars like Hank, Thad & Elvin Jones; to the Motown stable of vocal artists, and legendary rhythm players Benny Benjamin and James Jamerson. Not to mention a whole lot of hard funk and primal metal, everyone from Funkadelic and Ted Nugent, to Iggy & The Stooges and the MC5--hard driving, rugged rock and roll. Put it all together with a touch of pop, and a lot of soul, and you've got Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band. It's easy to divine Seger's influence on the music of Bruce Springsteen, and draw parallels with the vocal style of Van Morrison. The epic themes of Seger's characters on "Night Moves" certainly parallel those of the folk heroes who populate Springsteen songs (though he began developing his menagerie a good decade before the Boss). The chant-like, testifying cadences of Seger's blowtorch voice, and his predilection for gospelish motifs, puts one in mind of the mighty Celt's visionary flights. And as the fine GREATEST HITS makes clear, Bob Seger's influence on contemporary roots music is enormous. A song such as "Like A Rock" practically defines a roots approach to power pop, while "Old Time Rock & Roll" finds Seger in an upbeat, Little Richard mode. Celebrations notwithstanding, "Still The Same" and "Turn The Page" are dark, unstinting unsentimental looks at the underbelly of the showbiz animal and the road. Includes liner notes by Bob Seger. Engineers include: Shelly Yakus, Brian Christian, Jim Bruzzese. Personnel: Bob Seger (vocals, guitar, acoustic guitar, piano, electric piano, synthesizer, background vocals); Drew Abbott (guitar, electric guitar); Rick Vito (guitar, slide guitar); Ken Bell, Waddy Wachtel (guitar); Dawayne Bailey, Steve Lukather (acoustic guitar); Joe Miquelon (electric guitar); Crystal Taliefero, Alto Reed, Jimmy Romeo (saxophone); Bill Payne (piano, organ, keyboards, synthesizer); Craig Frost, Doug Riley (piano, organ); Randy McCormick, Roy Bittan (piano); Jai Winding (organ); Barry Beckett (keyboards); Michael Boddicker (synthesizer); Roger Hawkins, Russ Kunkel, David Teegarden (drums, percussion); Charlie Allen Martin (drums); Sam Clayton, Bobbye Hall (percussion); Clydie King, Luther Waters, Donny Gerrard, Julie Waters, Rhonda Silver, Glenn Frey, Ginger Blake, Stanley Carter, Izora Armstead, Douglas Kibble, Linda Dillard, Laurel Ward, Laura Creamer, Martha Wash, Rosemary Butler, Shaun Murphy, Venetta Fields, Shirley Matthews (background vocals). Best That I Could Do 1978-1988 CD music Initial pressings of this first edition contain a bonus disc. Recorded between 1970 & 2002. Includes liner notes by Paul Gambaccini. Greatest Hits 1970-2002 is a nearly flawless double-disc set commemorating Elton John's three-decade career. Disc one features what may arguably be John's most essential work: Seeing songs such as "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting," "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," "Candle in the Wind," and "Bennie and the Jets" -- not to mention "Your Song," "Rocket Man," and "Tiny Dancer" -- lined up back to back reaffirms just how diverse, and yet universal, his songwriting talent is. Disc two finds this talent maturing gracefully into the '80s, '90s, and beyond, touching on pop gems like "Don't Go Breaking My Heart," "I'm Still Standing," and "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues" as well as his Lion King classic "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" and the Aida duet "Written in the Stars" with LeAnn Rimes. The collection also finds room for the highlights of his most recent albums, including Made in England's "Believe" and "Blessed," The Big Picture's "Something About the Way You Look Tonight," and Songs from the West Coast's "This Train Don't Stop Here Anymore." For most casual fans, Greatest Hits 1970-2002 will replace the need for collections such as Greatest Hits, Greatest Hits, Vol. 2, and Greatest Hits, Vol. 3, although these collections are still worthwhile as of-their-time retrospectives of John's work. ~ Heather Phares All tracks have been digitally remastered.

Best That I Could Do 1978-1988 buy CD music East, Leland Sklar, Cornelius Mims, John Giblin, Freddie Washington (bass); Sheila E.(percussion); Peter Gabriel, Sting, Marva King (background vocals). In the early '80s, Collins took a break from the helm of Genesis to inaugurate a solo career that abandoned his group's art-rock agenda for a mainstream pop approach. In the ensuing years, the king of Nice Guy Pop established himself as one of the world's premier top 40 balladeers, as evidenced by the wall-to-wall hits that make up the balance of this appropriately titled collection. HITS walks the listener through the smooth, well-produced Collins hits that have worked their way into the collective consciousness of radio listeners (even casual ones) over the years. There are majestic power ballads ("I Wish It Would Rain") to light-hearted, infectious pop-funk ("Sussudio") and moody atmospheric pieces ("In the Air Tonight") HITS represents the full range of material this prolific performer has turned out over the course of his wildly successful career. Best That I Could Do 1978-1988 songs U2 burst onto the scene at the onset of the '80s with a majestic, uplifting, earnest approach and a unique textural sound that endeared them to fans and critics alike. They spent the rest of the decade growing up in public, solidifying their status as post-punk icons, marrying the good intentions of old-school alternative rock with the epic sonic scale of classic '70s rockers, never sounding less than totally original and never pausing for a hits compilation--until 1998. BEST OF offers a good representation of the complex body of work that made the band a legend. Fittingly, the album begins with the debut's "I Will Follow," a statement of commitment to pursuing truth and spirituality despite continual and inevitable misgivings. "Desire" mates Bono's lyrical fervor with a modified Bo Diddley beat to fine effect. New world meets old on the bluesy B.B. King collaboration "When Love Comes to Town." Closing things out, "All I Want is You" shows the moody, reflective side of the band, giving Bono a chance to croon and the rest of the band to exhibit the understated side of their instrumental might. Additional personnel includes: B.B. King (vocals, guitar); Una O'Kane, Nicola Cleary, Aengus O'Connor, Nicholas Milne (strings); The Memphis Horns (horns); Paul Barrett (piano, keyboards); Billy Preston (Hammond organ, background vocals); Joey Miskulin (organ); Brian Eno (synthesizer); Benmont Tench (keyboards); Ms. Bobbye Hall (percussion); Rebecca Evans Russell, Phyllis Duncan, Helen Duncan, Edna Wright, Maxine Waters, Julia Waters (background vocals). Best That I Could Do 1978-1988 album for sale Also includes material from Mark Knopfler's side project, The Notting Hillbillies. Additional personnel includes: Sting, Jeff Porcaro, Joop de Korte. All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology. Exactly ten years after Dire Straits' first compilation, Money for Nothing, appeared in the stores, their second, Sultans of Swing: The Very Best of Dire Straits, was released. A decade is a significant span of time, and the average band would have produced enough material for an entirely different collection, one that shared no similarities with its predecessor. Dire Straits is not the average band, however, and during those ten years, they released exactly two albums -- 1991's On Every Street, their first studio album since Brothers in Arms in 1985, and 1993's On the Night, a live album culled from tapes of the record's supporting tour. Not quite enough new material for a new greatest-hits album, but it had been years since Dire Straits had released an album of any sort (a compilation of BBC sessions snuck into the stores in 1995) -- hence the birth of Sultans of Swing. Unsurprisingly, it covers much of the same ground as Money for Nothing, containing all the essentials ("Sultans of Swing," "Romeo and Juliet," "Tunnel of Love," "Private Investigations," "Twisting by the Pool," "Money for Nothing," "Brothers in Arms," "Walk of Life"), with the exception of "Telegraph Road," which was left on the earlier compilation. A live "Love Over Gold," "Lady Writer," and "So Far Away" replace "Down to the Waterline," "Where Do You Think You're Going," and a live "Portobello Belle," which is really just a trade-off, since they're all equal in quality. Then there are the three hits from On Every Street ("Calling Elvis," "Heavy Fuel," "On Every Street"), all of which are pleasant re-creations of the Brothers in Arms sound; a live version of "Your Latest Trick" from On the Night, and, inexplicably, Mark Knopfler's "Wild Theme (Theme from Local Hero)." Fine tunes all, but none of them are reason enough to replace Money for Nothing with Sultans of Swing. But for casual fans or curious listeners looking for an introduction/sampler, it's the better choice, simply because it covers more ground and contains more music while remaining quite listenable and entertaining. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Dire Straits: Mark Knopfler (vocals, guitar); David Knopfler (guitar, keyboards); Hal Lindes (guitar, background vocals); Guy Fletcher, Phil Palmer (guitar); Paul Franklin (pedal steel guitar); Chris White (saxophone); Alan Clark (keyboards); John Illsley (bass, background vocals); Pick Withers, Terry Williams, Chris Whitten (drums); Danny Cummings (percussion).
