"Du Hast" was nominated for the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. Rammstein's second album, Sehnsucht, finds the German prog metal band making a great leap forward. While the group still sounds a little unfocused in places, their blend of industrial noise, grinding metal guitars, and operatic vocals is staggeringly powerful. No other European metal band sounds like Rammstein, nor does any American metal group -- this is powerful, gothic metal that is unlike anything else in late-'90s metal. Sehnsucht may be an acquired taste, but it's one worth acquiring. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine First introduced to the public in the soundtrack to David Lynch's LOST HIGHWAY, Rammstein produces a unique brand of menacing Teutonic rock, reconciling forebears (and admitted influence) Kraftwerk with the sonic assault of Nine Inch Nails. SEHNSUCHT manages to come on strong enough to get the Germans to forget about David Hasselhoff--at least for a while. As the eerie Arabic sample which introduces the opening title track dissolves into a crushing electric guitar attack, the listener descends into the dark sonic dungeon that is Rammstein. Vocalist Till Lindemann growls atop the group's twin guitar force, intoning the band's strangely romantic lyrics with snarling menace; the result is brutal drama of the highest order. From the exotic sonic experimentation of "Tier" to the tight crunch of "Buck Dich," SEHNSUCHT is a heavy, scary thrill ride, pausing for breath only with the comically soft "Klavier."Rolling Stone (2/5/98, p.62) - 3.5 Stars (out of 5) - "...Their guitars grind like an overbearing ear-bleed machine....The Uberserious guttural delivery of...Till Lindemann lends the band a melodramatic sense of melody as muscular as it is mannered....a soundtrack less for World War II than for its desloate aftermath." Kerrang (Magazine) (p.52) - "An electrifying sonic pummeling, this was the perfect vehicle to carry their unique vision to the masses." Classic Metal Good pounding riffs and some Metallica like rhythms make you wanna rock. Love the computer sound effects in some of their songs. A must buy. An instant classic. Submitted by a reviewer (Kingsville, Tx) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Rammstein's finest I remember when I first bought this cd I was blown away. The only way the songs on this album could be any better is to see Rammstein play them live, which I thankfully did in 2001. Best songs: whole album.
Although Rammstein is still my favourite band with NIN,I think that any hardcore Rammstein fan is doing themselves a favour by checking out Eisbrecher which r quickly becoming one of my favourite bands. Think of oldschool Rammstein(Sehnsucht, Herzeleid, Mutter).

rammstein rocks!!! Rammstein is a completely awesome band. They are one of my top favorites of all time and this is one of their best c.d.s. I can not decide if I like Sehnsucht or Mutter better. They are both SEHR WUNDERBAR!!! (yeah, don't know if that is spelled right) but both of those c.d.s rock!! They are both very heavy, but not so much as to take away from how good the music is. I like the singer's voice, and you don't have to understand German to understand the feelings behind each song or to enjoy this band. Just about every song on this c.d. is pure gold. If you were thinking about getting into Rammstein definately get this c.d. (Mutter too) If you loved the song "Du Hast" you'll like the rest of the c.d. I can't recomend it enough. | | Rammstein Herzeleid CD (1996)
Sehnsucht
$10.45 Producers: Jacob Hellner, Carl-Michael Herloffson. Rammstein's first album was about what was to be expected from a bunch of Germans who happily grew up on everything from Skinny Puppy to Depeche Mode to Laibach and back again, not to mention plenty of skull-crushing metal straight up. Precisely brutal and often brilliantly arranged -- the band aren't per se inventive, ...

| | Rammstein Reise, Reise CD (2004)
Sehnsucht
$11.99 Taking three years to release their follow-up to Mutter is a good idea since Reise, Reise is more of the same -- the same grit, the same growl, and the same dramatic, orchestra choruses. There's a bit more ingenuity in the production and a little more focus in the songs but not enough for the nonfaithful to pick up on. Unfortunately the lead single, "Mein Teil," is no "Du Hast," but the damning "Amerika" almost equals their breakthrough track. Whether or not Rammstein's label has ...
| | Rammstein Rosenrot CD (2005)
Sehnsucht
$11.99 "Rosenrot" translates as "Red-Rose". The fifth album from the Berlin sextet of Till Lindemann (vocals), Paul Landers (guitar), Christoph Schneider (drums), Richard Z. Kruspe (guitar), Flake Lorenz (keyboards) and Oliver Riedel (bass) make the impossible possible. They bring together what does not belong together: the Brothers Grimm and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Yes, it sounds absurd, but it's merely a stylistic device. The title fitting for ...
| | Tourniquet Microscopic View Of A Telescopic Realm CD (2000)
Sehnsucht
$9.69 Unbelievable, simply unbelievable. There’s probably no way to create a metal album more extreme: on one hand you’ll find soft acoustic guitar and organ parts, on the other incomprehensible fast grind sections, in between those poles they celebrate nearly everything heavy metal generated during history: Simple mid-tempo parts, leads for two in the style of Maiden, galloping thrash guitars, doomy seventies-axes or groovy modern riffs. You could go on for hours. Musically this band climbs the highest peaks where the atmosphere becomes thin. Though the team performance is equal, one has to emphasize the drumming of mastermind Ted Kirkpatrick. The breaks this man fires out of ...

| | Peter Brown Get Funky With Me-Best Of The TK Years CD (1998) (Import) United Kingdom
Sehnsucht
$10.49 Import exclusive compilation for the pioneering dance act includes his million-selling hit 'Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me' (including a 1994 remix), & more dance music hits recorded for the Miami-based TK Records label. 12 tracks in all. Stateside. 2004.
This compilation covers the hitmaking years of Peter Brown, a musician who had some notable dance music hits in the late '70s and early '80s on the Miami-based TK Records label. This label is best known as the home of funky disco acts like K.C. & the Sunshine Band and Jimmy "Bo" Horne, but Brown's work took a different tack. The songs on Get Funky With Me: The Best of the TK Years pursue slick, carefully crafted sound that has more to do with studio-driven dance acts like Chic. Like Prince, Brown recorded the majority of his instrumentation on his own in a home studio and added ...

| | Concrete Sky Glow CD (2003)
Sehnsucht
$10.15 Concrete Sky Goes National Virginia's eclectic rock band, Concrete Sky is making waves from New York to Los Angeles. The band has entered an artist development agreement with long-time Director of A&R for Capitol Records, Loren Israel (Beck, Coldplay, Jimmy Eats World). Israel is working with Concrete Sky on their third album. Their second CD, "Every Face I Spend" is nearing completion at Windmark Recording in Virginia Beach. Concrete Sky's debut CD, "GLOW," is licensed for national release this summer by Statue Records in Los Angeles. Eight of the thirteen tracks form "GLOW" have charted #1 in multiple categories at Soundclick.com, the largest free MP3 download site on the Internet. Concrete Sky is also undefeated in the New York bands competition, Touring 495, a yearlong event sponsored by Inside Connection Magazine. They're competing with some of New York's hottest bands for a $50,000 prize. At this writing, the band is in New York for the semi-finals.Concrete Sky also received rave reviews for both their live show and for their album "GLOW" by Inside Connection. "We're staying busy." says Bob Hembree, "It's important to test our music away from home, especially in New York. It's very competitive up there, and we've learned a Southern band can hold it's own just fine. In Hampton Roads, we're playing festivals and clubs that don't usually hire original bands. I think it's because our songs are honest with strong hooks, and easy to identify with." Concrete Sky is also anxious to work with other Hampton Roads bands. "We have a very strong talent base in this area. The community isn't as supportive of local musicians as it is in other areas, which is unfortunate, because record companies measure bands by their local followings. I strongly believe we'd see more bands signed if radio stations, large venues and publications would do more to promote local music. We currently discussing steps to stir interest in local music and to build an effective network to make this happen." One of the steps Concrete Sky members are taking is opening Hampton Roads Music Center in July. Hembree says they will work with local musicians in several areas including bookings, recording, seminars and promotion. "We see a need, and know how to fill it. We've managed to make some significant connections in our musical careers, which is more years than I'd care to say - we know younger musicians have the advantages. When our songs began topping the charts at Soundclick, my phone was ringing off the hook with offers from management and recording ...
