Antarctica is the soundtrack to Koreyoshi Kurahara's film of the same name. Vangelis composed and performed all of the music. It is a very dynamic and dramatic set, but does not convey the iciness that listeners would expect. Conveying feelings of angst, isolation, and even desolation, it is actually very good music. Get this if you like Vangelis' work. This is one of his best. From the majesty of the main theme to the haunting beauty of "Antarctic Echoes" and "Memory of.." this is excellent music to soothe and relax you.

In my view, this is Vangelis' best album. Give him a theme to work with, and he is off and running.Music is up beat and can be contemplative.

I first got this recording as a tape some ten years ago and, after buying a lot of Vangelis, this is the only one of his works that I really wanted to get as a CD. It is passionate and possesses a sense of drama that must have worked very well with the film, which I have not seen. I heartily recommend this CD to anyone and everyone who loves dynamic music.

I have the Japanese edition of Antarctica (the American edition should contain the album art cover with those cute siberian dogs). If you have not this one, purchase it, because you can regret if you don't buy it.....
