The most romantic album to come out of the Moody Blues' orbit, and the biggest success of their five-year hiatus. Hayward has the more distinctive body of songs, but their strength as a unit lies in their vocal pairing, which is as strong here as it ever was with the group. The pair play the guitars and basses, backed by a group that includes members of the Threshold-signed band Providence. Hayward wrote or co-wrote seven of the original album's ten songs, and most of it is fairly impressive as soft romantic rock, although "Nights Winters Years" is a little bit too melodramatic. Lodge has one of the better rockers to come out of the group's orbit, however, in "Saved By the Music," which is also a surprisingly spiritual song. The production by Tony Clarke echoes the best Moody Blues sound. The bonus track, "Blue Guitar," is an added attraction to the CD. ~ Bruce Eder

I have been looking for this album for years after my cassette version broke! It is an amazing collection of songs that speak to the heart and have touched me like no other album. I only wish they would've done more...

A beautiful piece of musical tapestry. It's a shame that they didn't collaborate on any additional Bluejays albums. Amust for any Moodies fan.

It is obvious from the opening track that Hayward was inspired. The sound qualities he achieves both on guitar and vocal are a continuation from the heights reached on Seventh Sojourn. The album features great collaboration between Hayward and Lodge. All in all, the album is really a showcase of Justin Hayward's amazing abilities as a singer/songwriter/guitarist, and it has been my contention that Hayward never recieved the praise due to him. Blue Jays is a must for ay Moodies lover, being the last true "Moodies" sound creation before their second life resuming with Octave.

The orchestra is magnifique,simply perfect.Besides of the vocals sometimes that sometimes sounds weak, its a very inspired album which every song match with the romantic enviroment of the arrangements. I recomend for a moment of relax.

I've always enjoyed this CD of Hayward but I don't really think much of John Lodge whose vocals are weak and thin with lyrics to match. I think(Hayward)should of done a CD with other band members instead from the Moodies like Ray Thomas who has a dynamic voice and better writing abilities. I've seen the Moodies countless times in live performances and it was quite obvious everytime when I seen them that they had to really double-track Lodge's voice being it is so weak and thin. I could tell it was double-tracked for much of the performance, where on the other hand Hayward & Thomas were pretty much for real. I've heard that Ray Thomas has retired from the band because of health problems associated with his chronic gout illness he has suffered with now for years. I was really sad to hear this. I'm still hoping for a comeback from him. I do however recommend adding this to your Moody Blues collections. But if you're like me and simply do not like Lodge's vocals try to overlook this aspect of the CD. I rest my case.
