The third release by Kim Simmonds and company, but the first to feature the most memorable lineup of the group: Simmonds, "Lonesome" Dave Peverett, Tony "Tone" Stevens, Roger Earl, and charismatic singer Chris Youlden. This one serves up a nice mixture of blues covers and originals, with the first side devoted to studio cuts and the second a live club date recording. Certainly the standout track, indeed a signature song by the band, is the tour de force "Train to Nowhere," with its patient, insistent buildup and pounding train-whistle climax. Additionally, David Anstey's detailed, imaginative sleeve art further boosts this a notch above most other British blues efforts. ~ Peter Kurtz

Blue Matter Great British Blues Blue Matter is one of Savoy Brown's best albums. If you are a fan of Savoy Brown or just a fan of lates 60's British Blues you will enjoy this one. Six studio cuts and three live cuts on one album. It is the best of both worlds. Submitted by chikarl (San Francisco, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great album from a very underrated band Great record. Train to Nowhere is the highlight, but this album is very consistent. There's no really weak tracks on this album. I think this is one of their best albums. Submitted by Steve D. Milford MA (Milford MA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Savoy Rules!!!!!!!!! If you are a blues fan you will love this cd! Savoy hits on all cylinders here! Kim Simmonds and his guitar pair with Chris Youldens' haunting voice to create a blues experience so intense, that you'll swear you can smell the whiskey and smoke of a blues hall!!! A "must have" in any serious Blues/R&R collection.......... Submitted by paulthanasse (Nowhere, Illinois.............) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
skipped school in 1969-1970 to hear this I went to high school in Jackson, MI. My best friend and neighbor, Bruce Eaton, myself, and a number of other derelicts caught Savoy Brown at the East Town Theater in Detroit on a number of dates. Savoy Brown were in their prime in this period, producing albums Blue Matter and Raw Sienna. Chris Youlden's vocals, Kim Simmonds guitar craft, and Lonesome Dave's work are all supreme blues performances. I have a 20 year-old kid who's doing great and listens to all kinds of music. He's at Bonnaroo this weekend. He and his buds are blown away by the quality of early Savoy Brown blues tunes. Submitted by a reviewer (grew up in Jackson Michigan) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Blue Matter MP3 Album
$6.49 After 1970's Looking In album, Peverett, Roger Earl, and Tony Stevens left to form Foghat, leaving Kim Simmonds with yet another dilemma. But for Simmonds, things went a little smoother than he might have imagined, picking up piano player Paul Raymond, bassman Andy Silvester, and drummer Dave Bidwell, all from Chicken Shack. He also hired singer Dave Walker, who was ...

Blue Matter music CDs
$6.39 (MP3 Available for Download) Savoy Brown: Dave Walker (vocals); Kim Simmonds (guitar); Paul Raymond (keyboards); Andy Silvester (bass); Dave Bidwell (drums). Recorded live in Canada between 1969 & 1972. Includes liner notes by Neil "Mr. Blues" Slaven. Hellbound Train Live: 1969-1972 is one retrospective set that's way overdue: Savoy Brown live during their glory years. Here are two CDs worth of the mightiest, sludgiest blues-rock band on the planet during those years -- well, the possible exception of Cream -- featuring, on a decent -- and best -- portion of it, the greatest white blues singer in history: Chris Youlden. Youlden was everything to Savoy Brown because not only could he sing, but he was an outrageous frontman and wrote much of the band's best material. He is featured here on "I'm Tired," "Hard Way to Go," "A Littler More Wine," and a truncated but earthshaking "Savoy Brown Boogie." Youlden's tenure with Savoy Brown saw him record three albums with the band: Blue Matter, Raw Sienna, and Getting ...

Previously available on two separate 1955 Folkways LPs (Birds, Beasts, Bugs and Little Fishes and Birds, Beasts, Bugs and Bigger Fishes), this CD combines both of these children's records onto one disc, complete lyrics included in the accompanying booklet. As the titles make plain, the songs were devoted to animals of all sorts; Birds, Beasts, Bugs and Little Fishes was aimed toward younger kids, and Birds, Beasts, Bugs and Bigger Fishes for older ones. It'll still do the job today, although it can be a bit much for over-tens to take when Pete Seeger does animal noises, and even if ...
