On his first solo album, 1984's RISING FORCE, Yngwie Malmsteen established himself as one of the definitive hard-rock guitar virtuosos of the era. Notably influenced by classical music, but working in the heavy-metal vernacular, the Swedish six-stringer offers up a propulsive set of songs that showcases his remarkably fleet-fingered playing, as best revealed on the urgent, ominous "Evil Eye." While Malmsteen is capable of emotive power ballads (see the plaintive "Icarus Dream Suite"), he seems most at home when blazing up and down the fretboard, as on "Far Beyond the Sun." Although some listeners may be content with THE YNGWIE MALMSTEEN COLLECTION, any true fan of the renowned shredder needs to own RISING FORCE.

Yngwie Malmsteen Rising Force Songs Rising Force Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews True Talent This is by far one of the best Yngwie albums ever released, and its his first too! It leaves you speechless, and shows how much one can do with a giutar. Black Star, Far Beyond The Sun & Icarus's Dream Suite are incredible. If there were any album you consider buying by him, get his first one, which is one of the best. Submitted by AnimasPhantasm (B.C., Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Excellent! Superb! A MUST! It is the very best of Yngwie Malmsteen. If you loves guitars, you need this! Melodic but powerful. And fast! Incredibly fast! It is a demon! Absolutelly great! This album is the state-of-the-art in instrumental tracks for guitars. Believe me, you will love this! Submitted by a reviewer (Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
was great in 85 ever since then, you have produced your own cds, and one horrible, you can not produce anything! hire a producer.
cd is good, good songs, guitar, vocals are great. but like ALL his releases suffer very poor production quality, this sounded good in 1985, but you havent changed anything since then! Submitted by arctikdeth (Chicago burbs) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Yngwie and Barri light the earth on fire I am a drummer, and a huge Barrimore Barlow fan, so when my friend turned me on to this album, back in 83(?), I was astonished at the playing ability of someone who could make Eddie Van Halen sound as if he were playing in slow motion all those years on guitar, along with experiencing the fire of Barri on his fast and powerful drumming. I think that "now your ships are burned" was the song that blew my mind. I personally feel that tune showcases the fire that Yngwie was able to release from his fingers, along with Barri's fast and complex accompiments on the skins. The first time I heard Icarus' Dream, I litterally wept. Beautiful, amazing song. Two sick puppies! Submitted by partyof42 (San Dimas, Ca.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Not Of This Planet! As a guitarist and a fan of 'shred' albums in general, this is a landmark release. Upon first hearing it, I too had to try my hand at the sublime 'Far Beyond The Sun' but it didn't take me hours to learn, neither did 'Icarus Dream Suite', another highly complex piece. 'Black Star' lulls one into a false sense of security before ripping you up, while 'Little Savage' is just that. Fabulous guitar, no doubt about it but, overall, this isn't a great rock album. Too few vocals and rubbish lyrics as well, plus they could've done with Cozy Powell or Tommy Aldridge on the drums. Still, a fine debut from the Swede. Rising Force
$11.59 After toiling with classical references in his music for most of his career, guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen finally dedicated himself to writing a concerto for electric guitar. The combination is not unique, as several rock groups, including Metallica, have been backed by full orchestras, but this is the first work of its kind to feature the electric guitar as the lead instrument in a concerto. One of Malmsteen's biggest target's for criticism has been his inability to move beyond his speed demon reputation that he acquired after bursting on the scene in the early '80s. Seemingly stuck in arrested musical development this work proves that at least he's trying. There are many intriguing moments here and plenty of pyrotechnics, however, ...

| | Yngwie Malmsteen Eclipse CD (1990)
Rising Force
$13.95 By the time of Eclipse, Yngwie Malmsteen's influence had spread far across the guitar community -- dazzling technique was almost a prerequisite to play lead guitar in a heavy metal band, and places like the Berklee School of Music and GIT (which used such Malmsteen favorites as Beethoven and Paganini to hone technique) were churning out guitar virtuosos as if they operated assembly ...

| | Uli Jon Roth Earthquake CD (1979) Import
Rising Force
$12.79 This digitally remastered re-release of former Scorpions guitarist Uli Jon Roth's EARTHQUAKE features 11 tracks.
After his none-too-pleasant exit from German hard rock icons the Scorpions, guitar wizard Uli Jon Roth launched the next phase of his career via 1979's Earthquake album, which was released through his ostensible solo project, Electric Sun -- a psychedelic power trio fashioned in the image of his idol Jimi Hendrix's Experience. Unfortunately, Electric Sun's hippie tendencies were already severely outdated by this time, and with Roth handling the singing despite his obvious technical limitations (even with the Scorpions, he frequently insisted on sharing lead vocals with true frontman Klaus Meine), the project was probably doomed to commercial failure from the start. Indeed, no matter how categorically dazzling his guitar-playing skills, Roth's incompetence as a singer transformed Earthquake into the sort of album that made his loyal fans want to pull their hair out in frustration. On the one hand, here was the glory of Roth's guitar work, with its effortlessly fluid melodic lines, unexpected twists of the imagination, astounding improvisations, complete control of tone and texture, and not a single note wasted in the bargain; on the other, there was Uli's nasal and unruly voice, rambling on about painfully archaic flower-child subjects, with no help from his heavy German accent. And perhaps even stranger, nestled in alongside epic workouts like "Burning Wheels Turning" and the neo-classical tour de force of a title track, other songs simply found ...
| | MTV2 Headbangers Ball CDs (2003)
Rising Force
$13.75 In ye olde days of the 1980s, true metalheads hoping to catch videos of their favorite bands had to stay up late for the original HEADBANGERS BALL, MTV's bastion of all things long-haired, leather-clad, and too heavy for the network's regular rotation. In the new millennium, when extreme metal of every sort reached the mainstream on a weekly basis, the faithful ironically still turned to HEADBANGERS ...
