Anthrax: Joe Belladonna (vocals); Dan Spitz, Scott Ian (guitar); Frank Bello (bass); Charlie Benante (drums). Recorded at Pyramid Sound, New York. Anthrax's first album with vocalist Joey Belladonna is a huge leap forward, featuring strongly rhythmic, pounding riffs and vocals that alternate between hardcore-type shouting and surprising amounts of melody. Two tracks left over from the Dan Lilker days are here as well. The traditional metal lyrical fare is more original, while also introducing a penchant for paying tribute to favorite fictional characters and pop culture artifacts ("Lone Justice" and "Medusa" are prime examples). One of Anthrax's best efforts. ~ Steve Huey Anthrax's first full-length recording with new vocalist Joey Belladonna and bassist Frank Bello, 1985's SPREADING THE DISEASE, showed that the band had survived its first major lineup change without skipping a beat. If anything, the change strengthened the quintet, just in time for its first major-label release, on Island Records. While most thrash metal bands at the time were fronted by a gruff, screaming singer, Belladonna sang in a manner that was both melodic and conventional. Musically, the band could still thrash away with the best of them, as it became one of the new metal genre's leading bands, along with Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer. The band's first video clip, for the song "Madhouse," was found too offensive for broadcast by MTV, while such tracks as "A.I.R.," "Gung Ho," and "Armed in Dangerous" became mosh pit favorites in metal clubs. The track "Medusa" remains one of the band's most melodic and pop-oriented efforts, but don't be mislead, the majority of this record is good ol' metal, with tracks like "Lone Justice," "S.S.C./Stand Or Fall," "Enemy," and "Aftershock." Although SPREADING THE DISEASE wasn't Anthrax's commercial breakthrough, it set the stage for their best album ever, AMONG THE LIVING. Spreading The Disease Music Anthrax Spreading The Disease Songs Spreading The Disease Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) Amazing..!! first of all, Stalban doesn't know what he's talking about. Metallica did not create thrash metal.. the bands that did were obviously overkill and anthrax and along with megadeath...but anyways overall this album is sick!! Perfect This is probably one of the greatest thrash metal albums EVER, and in my humble opinion, this is Anthrax's best album, if you have Amoung The Living, you need this one, get it for Medusa and Madhouse at least Submitted by Mikey (OHIO< USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Classic Anthrax Album Ever. Theres alot of bands out in the metal scene that made classic albums better than what it is today, and anthrax is one of them. First of all, these guys created what is called Thrash Metal( along with Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer )in the early 80's, and Anthrax made a truley classic metal album, Spreading The Disease. A.I.R remains to be one of the most favourite mosh-pit tracks, Joey's vocals is still one of the best metal voices of all time. Madhouse happens to be one of my all-time favourite songs on this one, also S.S.C/Stand or Fall, Enemy and Gung-Ho are recommened tracks to listen to. Anthrax remains to be one of metals best bands, if you don't have this one, you don't know what you're missing. Submitted by a reviewer (StAlbans , vic , aus) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Spreading The Disease
$8.15 Anthrax: Joe Belladonna (vocals); Dan Spitz (acoustic & electric guitars); Scott Ian (guitar); Frank Bello (bass); Charlie Benante (drums). Generally considered the band's best album, Among the Living broadened the scope of Anthrax's subject matter with socially conscious lyrics addressing prejudice, violence, drug abuse ("Efilnikufesin [N.F.L.]," a rip on John Belushi), and the hollowness of the music business, as well as a politically correct ode to the "Indians." However, the band refuses to take itself too seriously, also recording tributes to Stephen King and Judge Dredd. Musically, the band delivers a powerful, ...

Spreading The Disease
$8.15 Anthrax: Joe Belladonna (vocals); Charlie Benante (guitar, drums); Dan Spitz, Scott Ian (guitar); Frank Bello (bass). Persistence of Time rivals Among the Living as Anthrax's best album and might even be a clear-cut favorite if some of the songs had been trimmed a bit. The more cartoonish side of the band is missing here, trimmed in favor of a dark, uncompromising examination of society's dirty underbelly -- nearly every song rails against hatred and prejudice, but without an excess of optimism. The standout track is, once again, a cover -- Joe Jackson's "Got the Time" -- but the rest of the album is strong enough to hold its own. This is the album for those ...

Dio: Ronnie James Dio (vocals, keyboards); Vivian Campbell (guitar); Jimmy Bain (keyboards, bass); Vinny Appice (drums). Recorded at Sound City Studios, Los Angeles, California. After playing a major role in five positively classic heavy metal albums of the late '70s and early '80s (three with Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and two with Black Sabbath), it seemed that singer Ronnie James ...
