Recorded live at the Opry House, Austin, Texas; Great Southern Music Hall, Orlando, Florida; Great Southern Music Hall, Gainesville, Florida; Gusman Hall, Miami, Florida in January and February 1979.
All songs written or co-written by Pat Travers except "Boom Boom (Out Go The Lights)" (Stan Lewis).
Pat Travers never sounded more focused and inspired than he does on Live! Go for What You Know, which was recorded during the Canadian hard rocker/blues-rocker's U.S. tour of early 1979. Travers can really burn on stage, and this album reflects that. Backed by guitarist Pat Thrall (who had been a member of the obscure space rock band Automatic Man in 1976 and 1977), bassist Mars Gowling, and drummer Tommy Aldridge, the singer is in top form on explosive, definitive versions of funky originals like "Heat in the Street," "Gettin' Betta," and "Makes No Difference." But the best-known thing on the album is Travers' gutsy performance of Stan Lewis' blues classic "Boom Boom (Out Go the Lights)," which should not be confused with the John Lee Hooker favorite "Boom Boom." For Travers, "Boom Boom (Out Go the Lights)" has been a major crowd pleaser, and the version heard on this release was a staple of album rock radio in 1979 and the early '80s. If you're exploring Travers' music for the first time, Live! Go for What You Know is among the CDs to start with. ~ Alex Henderson

Go For What You Know Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews GREAT LIVE ALBUM! I concur with the other review: THE BEST live recording and show ever. Nothing compares with this album for a live peformance. Pat Thrall is probably the best unsung guitar hero out there. Mars is one of the top few bassists to ever hit the stage (re: "Hooked on Music" for a taste of his ax work...). And Tommy Aldridge?!!! - what can you say - few have ever come close on the skins.
Having been lucky to see these guys twice in '80, once as a main act, and once more three weeks later opening for Foghat (...who by the way was in their prime and who wasn't sharp enough to put a second tier act in front of them to make them look great....Traves worked the crowd into a frenzy for which Foghat couldn't keep pace with.....). Gotta say no other performance has ever compared: Four unbelievable musicians jelling and hitting on all cylinders at once - a very rare occurance. Does not get any better than this!! This CD is by far some of the best guitar work ever done. If this CD does not get your pulse rate up, than get to a hospital!! Submitted by dcj415 (Big Cove Tannery PA , USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS! I've been listening to this album for a quarter century and it's still the best live recording ever. It kicks butt from start to finish. My first concert was Pat Travers in 1980, opening for Foghat.
PT just blew me away. I've been "HOOKED ON MUSIC, HOOKED ON ROCK N' ROLL" ever
since. Submitted by Chris (Nashville, TN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$24.79 (MP3 Available for Download) The remastered DISRAELI GEARS is also available in its entirety on the 4 disc set THOSE WERE THE DAYS.
Recorded in the U.S. in a three-and-a-half day flurry of inspired activity before the band members' visas expired, DISRAELI GEARS continued to present the legendary, unprecedented rock power-trio acrobatics pioneered by Cream on their debut FRESH CREAM. The acronymic "SWLABR (She Walked Like a Bearded Rainbow)" for instance, featured some of the band's most fiery instrumental interplay. The album, with its eye-catching day-glo cover, was produced by Felix Pappalardi (who went on to co-found the Cream-inspired Mountain) and once again featured collaborations between singer/bassist Jack Bruce and lyric poet Pete Brown. The Top Five hit "Sunshine Of Your Love," however, was written by Brown and Eric Clapton. That iconic riff-rocker, along with the slinky, bluesy "Strange Brew," and the mythographic, wah-wah stomper "Tales of Brave Ulysses" was a staple of rock radio forever after, making DISRAELI GEARS one of the seminal '60s rock albums. Despite the good humor suggested by the jokey a capella reading of "Mother's Lament," however, all was far from peace and love in the Cream camp at the time, as internal and external pressures broke up the band by the end of 1968.
Intense Cream fans and collectors might be disappointed in the two-CD deluxe edition of Disraeli Gears for offering little in the way of previously unreleased material. There is a lot of extra stuff here, mind you, which makes it a nice expansion of the group's best and most focused album. There's the original album in both stereo and mono; two outtakes of "Lawdy Mama" and five additional demos (all seven of which previously appeared on the Those Were the Days box set); and nine 1967-1968 BBC recordings from the Disraeli Gears era (all of which appear on the BBC Sessions compilation). The only wholly previously unavailable item is an alternate version of "Blue ...
