| | Grace Jones Island Life CD Grace Jones Discography of CDs
(2 Customer Reviews)
A veiled compilation album of Grace Jones' Island sides from an assortment of albums. Instead of calling it The Best of Grace Jones, Island dubbed it Island Life. But it doesn't matter what name is used -- many of these cuts are the typical '70s European disco mush that doesn't have enough seasoning for American music appetites. ~ Andrew Hamilton
This release from Island France has a misleading title. Not a sequel to 1985's Island Life compilation, Island Life 2 only adds a handful of bonus tracks to the original release's running order. A cut apiece from the Warm Leatherette and Nightclubbing albums are tacked on, as are two jarring (and pointless) club remixes of "Sex Drive." There's no reason to hunt this down and shell out the extra cash. The U.S. version is perfectly adequate, albeit brief and trumped in the early 2000s by a handful of more extensive (if flawed) anthologies. Regardless of format, "Love Is the Drug," "Warm Leatherette," "Slave to the Rhythm," and "Pull Up to the Bumper" continue to pack a lot of bite. ~ Andy Kellman Grace Jones Island Life Songs Island Life Music Review Average Rating: (3.5 out of 5 stars) Confused !!! I was confused by this compilation when I first purchased it.
Although it covers some of Grace Jones' hits it lacks alot of them songs such as: Feel Up, Breakdown, The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game, Autumn Leaves, The Apple Stretching, A Rolling Stone, Nipple To The Bottle and Warm Leatherette. Many of the songs on this album are cut short or changed, this brings down the quality of Grace Jones' high music standard.
Very Dissapointing. Submitted by a reviewer (Denmark - (Europe)) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Retro music... These songs brings so many wonderful memories back from the 80's. Grace's music has always been top notch, the production as well as the choice of songs she's performed. Her cover of "La Vie en Rose" is nothing short of fantastic and her androgyne persona suits well with "Walking in the Rain" and "Private Life". The music, the person and of course the songs, songs like the classic "Love Is the Drug" and "Pull Up to the Bumper" hit the U.K charts once again in 1985 when this compilation was issued. Other highlights "Slave to the Rhythm", "I Need a Man" and "I've Seen That Face Before (Libertango)".

$12.19 Grace Jones teamed with the great reggae production duo of Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare on this '80 album, and made the transition from straight dance and club act into quasi-pop star with reggae and urban contemporary leaning. The single "Private Life" was one of her best, and the overall album had more energy and production gloss than previous LPs that had been aimed completely at ...
| | Ladies & Gentlemen: The Best Of George Michael CDs (1998)
Island Life music CDs
$15.99 Though he made his initial mark on music history as half of the unctuous British duo Wham, George Michael wasted little time in proving himself more than just a pretty pop face. This comprehensive two-disc compilation documents the career of a man who was able to successfully meld pop, R&B and serious, introspective balladry without ever losing sight of the all-important groove and hook.
Thankfully, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN doesn't skimp on tracks from Michael's classic solo debut, and tracks like Bo Diddley beat-driven "Faith" and the lusty, Prince-like "I Want ...
| | Faces Nod Is As Good As A Wink... To A Blind Horse CD (1971)
Island Life songs
$6.15 When this was released in 1971, the Faces also released LONG PLAYER (following the dropping of "Small" from the band's name) and frontman Rod Stewart released the seminal EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY. The three-album output was especially remarkable for the Faces, as the band was more known for skirt-chasing and carousing than recording music. NOD found the Faces fusing together a grittier blues and soul sound than on past efforts, which were marked by a rather modish sound and Stewart's then-folkier leanings.
The group includes enough heartfelt ruminations to add a sentimental edge to the otherwise rip-roaring mix of material. Among the latter class of songs are a shambling cover of Chuck Berry's "Memphis, Tennessee" and "Stay With Me," the Faces' only hit and the quintessential groupie kiss-off. Stewart's talents as a balladeer are no less effective, with ...
| | Faces Ooh La La CD (1973)
Island Life album
$6.45 By the time the Faces' fourth album came out in 1973, Rod Stewart had already become a solo superstar, causing stresses within the band. Stewart and founding member/bassist Ronnie Lane reportedly fought throughout the making of OOH LA LA, particularly when Stewart's solo commitments kept him from attending Faces recording sessions. That tension is perhaps evident in the grooves of OOH LA LA--it's probably not a coincidence that the folksy, acoustic title track sounds more like "Maggie May" than any previous Faces effort, even though guitarist Ron Wood sings lead.
Lane takes lead vocals on his own "Flags and Banners" and wrote the majority of the album's latter half. The remaining parts of OOH LA LA include Stewart and Wood's boogie-fried "Silicone Grown" and two songs spotlighting the inimitable keyboardist ...
| | David Bowie Best Of Bowie CDs (2002) Bonus CD; Remastered; 2 CDS
Island Life CD music
$19.49 This edition of BEST OF BOWIE will only be available 12.2.2003-3.31.2004.
Ably serving as a substitute for the excellent but out-of-print collection BOWIE: THE SINGLES 1969-1993, the two-CD BEST OF BOWIE serves as an outstanding career-spanning retrospective featuring material from as recent as 2002. Above all reflecting the visionary aptitude of a restless creative genius who switched into different musical guises the way some people change suits, these 38 cuts trace David Bowie's path from space-rock folkie ("Space Oddity") and glam god ("Ziggy Stardust") to blue-eyed soulster ("Young Americans"), and cutting-edge futurist ("Fashion").
21st-century kids might be aware of Bowie via covers by Nirvana ("The Man Who Sold The World") or the Wallflowers ("Heroes"), but it's equally likely they've heard playlist war-horses like '80s alt-pop classics "Let's Dance," "Modern Love," and "China Girl." Not to be missed are this icon's stellar collaborations with a wide range of talent including John Lennon ("Fame"), Queen ("Under Pressure"), Mick Jagger ("Dancing In The Streets"), and The Pat Metheny Group ("This Is Not America"). The latter material rounding out this collection is equally deserving of attention whether it's the howling nihilism of Bowie's group Tin Machine ("Under The God"), a Nine Inch Nails industrial-rock team-up ("I'm Afraid Of Americans [V1]"), or the 2002 reunion with '70s collaborator ...
