This high-water mark by the band finds them softening their rougher edges and stretching out into jazz territory, yet still retaining a blues foundation. There's not a bad cut here, with enough variety (bottleneck slide, acoustic guitar, horns, and strings) to warrant frequent late-night listenings. "A Hard Way to Go," "Needle and Spoon," and "Stay While the Night Is Young" are especially strong, as are two instrumental numbers. Unfortunately, leader Kim Simmonds lost his greatest asset when vocalist Chris Youlden quit for an ill-fated solo career after this recording. Youlden had one of the most distinctive voices in British blues, and Savoy would never fully recover from his exit. ~ Peter Kurtz Savoy Brown Raw Sienna Songs Raw Sienna Music Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews My elders know their stuff. This album is worth every penny. I worked with a guy while I was in college and he had the song "A Little More Wine" on a cd. That really peaked my interest, so I started checking out some of their other work. My dad and uncle both like Savoy Brown and encouraged me to look into "Looking In" and "Street-Corner Talkin'" which are both excellent too, but this is by far the best. From the adrenaline pumping bang of "That Same Feelin'" to the soft easiness of "Stay While the Night is Young", Raw Sienna is a must have for fans of Classic Rock and Blues. Smooth grooves I was surprised how much I enjoyed this album & highly recommend it. Not heavy-handed or whitebread blues, just a smooth collection of songs that are very jazzy & somewhat mellow at times.

Sweet Savoy Brown I used to listen to Savoy Brown 30 years ago. I had this cd on a record, I came across it and played it on my record player. It seems with records you always have one side you like better than the other. I bought this cd and now I get to listen to both sides. It is good and it has made me want to add more Savoy Brown to my collection as I only had one of their records. Lookin In will be next. Check them out for yourself if you like goood! music. Best Savoy Brown Album This is one of my all time favorite albums by anyone, a definite Desert Island Disk, and I think it's the very best or all the Savoy Brown albums. The last one where Chris Youlden's fantastic vocals chilled us all to the bone. My favorites are "I'm Crying" and "Stay While the Night Is Young," but this is an album I can listen to all the way through any time at all. A classic bluesy beauty. | | Savoy Brown Step Further CD (1990)
Raw Sienna
$6.49 This disc was prepared from the original U.K. master tapes. With Kim Simmonds and Chris Youlden combining their talents in Savoy Brown's strongest configuration, 1969's A Step Further kept the band in the blues-rock spotlight after the release of their successful Blue Matter album. While A Step Further may not be as strong as the band's former release, ...

Raw Sienna
$6.49 After 1970's Looking In album, Peverett, Roger Earl, and Tony Stevens left to form Foghat, leaving Kim Simmonds with yet another dilemma. But for Simmonds, things went a little smoother than he might have imagined, picking up piano player Paul Raymond, bassman Andy Silvester, and drummer Dave Bidwell, all from Chicken Shack. He also hired singer Dave Walker, who was the former frontman with the Idle Race, ...
| | Savoy Brown Hellbound Train CD (1972)
Raw Sienna
$6.39 Savoy Brown: Dave Walker (vocals); Kim Simmonds (guitar); Paul Raymond (keyboards); Andy Silvester (bass); Dave Bidwell (drums). Recorded live in Canada between 1969 & 1972. Includes liner notes by Neil "Mr. Blues" Slaven. Hellbound Train Live: 1969-1972 is one retrospective set that's way overdue: Savoy Brown live during their glory years. Here are two CDs worth of the mightiest, sludgiest blues-rock band on the planet during those years -- well, the possible exception of Cream -- featuring, on a decent -- and best -- portion of it, the greatest white blues singer in history: Chris Youlden. Youlden was everything to Savoy Brown because not only could he sing, but he was an outrageous frontman and wrote much of the band's best material. He is featured here on "I'm Tired," "Hard Way to Go," "A Littler More Wine," and a truncated but earthshaking "Savoy Brown Boogie." Youlden's tenure with Savoy Brown saw him record three albums with the band: ...
