Adelmo Fornaciari, otherwise known as Zucchero, broke onto the international scene with this 1986 album. Guitar work from Eric Clapton heightens the profile of this release, and underscores Zucchero's fondness for electric blues. But it is Zucchero's songwriting and emotive voice that really captivate, and that paved the way for his immense popularity throughout Italy and the rest of Europe in the late '80s and '90s.
Zucchero's voice is gritty and textured, but he sings with a great sensitivity and lyricism (at times recalling the quality of Peter Gabriel's voice), and these same qualities are mirrored in his songwriting. By blending blues, pop, and adult contemporary, Zucchero's music can be quite affecting. This self-titled album alternates songs in Italian with songs in English, making the artist's music all the more diverse and accessible. Zucchero album
$9.05 The Italian version of EROS contains 2 songs that do not appear on the Spanish version. It also contains 8 songs that are completely re-recorded.
At the height of his popularity, after establishing a fan base for himself across much of Western Europe as well as parts of the Spanish-language world, Italian singer/songwriter Eros Ramazzotti took some time off during the late '90s and released Eros, a greatest-hits compilation comprised primarily of newly recorded material. The 16-track compilation is comprised of five songs that appear in their original versions, nine that have been newly recorded specifically for this compilation, and two new ones. While the decision to re-record the majority of the inclusions is unusual for a greatest-hits album, Eros ends up being a much more interesting album than it would have been otherwise. The nine songs that are re-recorded are the early hits of Ramazzotti, namely "Terra Promesa" (originally released in 1984), "Una Storia Importante" (1985), "Adesso Tu" (1986), "Ma Che Bello Questo Amore" (1987), "Musica E" (1988), "Se Bastasse una Canzone" (1990), "Cose Della Vita" (1993), and a couple others. The five songs that appear in their original versions are more recent hits such as "Un'Altra Te" (1993) and "Pił Bella Cosa" (1996). In fact, none of the songs on Eros predates 1993, and only two predate 1996. As a result, Eros sounds as if it were a totally new album -- a brilliantly written one, at that -- rather than a compilation of greatest hits. For instance, there's no trace whatsoever of ...
| | Jovanotti Lorenzo 1990-1995 Raccolta CD (1995)
Zucchero CD music
$11.05 Lorenzo 1990-1995 Raccolta is the best introduction to Jovanotti anyone could hope for. An unassailable 16-track compilation culled from the four studio albums Giovani Jovanotti, Una Tribł Che Balla, Lorenzo 1992, and Lorenzo 1994, it also includes two new tracks, "Marco Polo," and the hit "L'Ombelico del Mondo." Tellingly, this compilation ignores Jovanotti's first two juvenile efforts, Jovanotti for President and La Mia Moto. This decision may pertain to copyright issues, or to Jovanotti's manifest intent to distance himself from his early image as a brainless party animal. In this sense, the album does not paint the complete picture; after all, Jovanotti's quick rise to fame was largely due to shock value (rather than good songs): he was the first Italian rapper, and a handsome reckless teenager all in the same package. In any case, the exclusion of his first hits certainly makes this collection a much stronger album, one that forces the listener to reconsider Jovanotti as a major talent to be reckoned with. Tracks are not in chronological order, yet the album flows seamlessly. This only reinforces Jovanotti's claim that he ...

| | Stevie Ray Vaughan - Live From Austin, Texas DVD (1983)
Zucchero album
$9.69 Blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan was already a legend when he was killed in a helicopter crash in 1990. Like all talents who die early, he has left behind a legacy of myths and stories concerning his complex life and persona. This very special video release -- which contains a 1983 and a 1989 appearance on the television show "Austin City Limits" -- provide a glimpse into the mythical musician at the beginning and the end of his short career. Eleven tracks are virtuostically performed here; half by the young, newly successful Vaughan, ...
| | Tinsley Ellis Speak No Evil CD (2009)
Zucchero CD music
$14.95 Tinsley Ellis has worked hard since the early 1980s to establish himself on the contemporary blues scene. As a result, he has become one of the most consistent, and therefore quintessential, electric blues men. He's also a good songwriter in that he stretches the blues form as far as it will go, and occasionally he crosses into solid hard rock territory. On SPEAK NO EVIL, it seems as though Ellis has been listening to some of Robin Trower's early to mid-period records. And what seems to be at work on SPEAK NO EVIL is Ellis trying to push the blues form in a decidedly more rockist direction without losing its emotional feel. Check out the opening track, "Sunlight of Love" With its hard-driven wah-wah pedals and funky backbeat; one can easily imagine this track on Trower's TWICE REMOVED FROM YESTERDAY. Another number in this vein is "The Night Is Easy" (all that's missing are the phase shifters!). What's as impressive as Ellis' guitar playing is how much improved his singing is - it has grown more expressive and gained some subtlety as time has gone on. SPEAK NO EVIL is an ambitious album from Ellis; he's ...
| | Alright! Black American Dance Music From The Disco Era CD (1997)
Zucchero music CDs
$14.00 Full Title- Alright! Black American Dance Music FromThe Disco Era. Ace.
Although Them was the only group from Belfast (indeed, the only group from Ireland) who made an international impact in the mid-1960s, there were several other bands from the area playing R&B-influenced rock. 27 tracks from nine such outfits (including a couple of songs by Them) are found on this compilation, the odd-looking title selected in honor of the Maritime Hotel where Them played shows and built their following. Taken as a whole, it's a solid and gutsy platter that makes a good case for Belfast having developed its own regional take on the British R&B sound, even if Them were clearly the best of the bunch by a football field. There's often (though not always) a sullen, nasty, lean edge to the vocals and arrangements, whether the material is R&B covers or originals that are thinly derivative of American R&B. The sandpaper vocals that Van Morrison used on his most aggressive performances (such as Them's debut single "Don't Start Crying Now," which kicks off the compilation), as well as the hungry-sounding guitars and sinister organ riffs that also characterized much of Them's discography, are all present to some degree in other artists on this anthology. That's especially true of the Wheels, who sound almost like Them themselves on "Road Block," with its "Mystic Eyes"-inspired guitar and organ. It and the magnificent, punky "Bad Little Woman" (covered by the Shadows of Knight in the US) have appeared several times on reissue collections of British Invasion rarities. Here, the sound is much better, although the other ten Wheels tracks on the album (including everything from their singles and five previously unreleased cuts) aren't on the same plane. (Indeed, with 12 of the 27 songs, the Wheels could almost be considered the featured artist here.) Much of the rest of the material is taken from a various artists LP from 1966, Ireland's Greatest Sounds: Five Top Groups from Belfast's Maritime Club, and those cuts sound thinner and less imposing than ...

| | B B King One Kind Favor CD (2008)
Zucchero CD music
$12.99 Though he's created some of the most essential, elemental blues in musical history, B.B. King has never shied away from exploring different directions, and some might say he's occasionally ventured too far afield. ONE KIND FAVOR should silence those doubters; with the help of superproducer T-Bone Burnett's roots noir approach, it finds King delivering gritty, impassioned interpretations of the tunes that influenced him in the 1950s. From his soulful, syncopated take on Blind Lemon Jefferson's country blues classic "See That My Grave is Kept Clean" to the Chicago-style stomping takeover of the Mississippi Sheiks' "The World Is Gone Wrong," King proves that at the age of 82 he can still turn out fiery, energetic music as undeniably vital as anything being produced by artists a third of ...
