(1 Customer Review)
For his second solo album, Andy Mackay enlisted the assistance of two of his Roxy Music friends (Phil Manzanera and Paul Thompson), and following a visit to China in 1978 he recorded this "tribute" to China. And it worked. It worked brilliantly. Incorporating traditional Chinese sounds with his progressive rock background, Mackay was able to forge new sounds that made for fascinating listening. This instrumental album not only highlights Mackay's brilliant playing but his underrated talent for writing incredibly melodic, moving songs. The moods on this album move from melancholy to joyous, and it all makes sense. When Mackay reissued the album in 1992 on his own Riff label, he added four outtakes that. While interesting, neither adds nor detracts from the original beauty of this album. This album does not disappoint, and it also features one of the most brilliant album titles of all time. ~ Aaron Badgley

$9.89 How a good-looking Jewish boy from Brooklyn discovered the secret of success in an updated form of mariachi music is perhaps beyond our scope. Then again, it might not be such a mystery after all. Aside from the obvious example of exotica, much easy listening depends upon more than a touch of ethnicity to maintain its musical roots. What Herb Alpert found in Mexican street bands was a previously untapped source of south-of-the-border melody and rhythm. With its ...

Rena Scott's smooth ballad 'Remember' is currently the most requested R&B song, #1 downloaded ringtone and stayed on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Single Sales chart for 18 weeks as well as cross over into the Pop Charts. The single is from 'Let Me Love You,' (Amor Records), a collection of romantic ballads that makes for the perfect backdrop to hot summer days and balmy nights. 'The songs on this album reflect my growth through experiences,' Scott says. 'All of these songs tell the story of love, life and the truth that in love there are good times and bad times. These are the things I'm passionate about, and are the feelings I write and sing about.' The one time backup singer for Aretha Franklin and featured performer with The Crusaders shares her heart in "I Know It's Right" and her soul comes out in "A Love Thang." The Detroit diva began her singing career as a lead vocalist in the church choir and started singing professionally at the tender age of 13 performing with The Temptations. Soon, she was opening up for The Temps, Four Tops and The Originals. While performing with the Four Tops, Scott was discovered by a local production company who signed her to a contract. Her first record, 'I Just Can't Forget That Boy' debuted, to rave reviews, while she was ...
