| | Alejandro Escovedo More Miles Than Money: Live 1994-96 CD Alejandro Escovedo Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
If this disc is representative of Escovedo's live performance, he puts on one hell of a low-key show. Culled from gigs over a two year period, these renditions of his solo canon are so spare, so harrowing, you can hear the rattling of bones. The result ranks along side Frank Sinatra's In the Wee Small Hours and Tom Waits' Closing Time as one of the all-time great late-night LPs. ~ Tim Sheridan

More Miles Than Money: Live 1994-96
$10.79 Alejandro Escovedo has an impressive resume: he was a member of one of the first San Francisco punk bands, the Nuns, and was in one of the early country-punk bands, Rank & File, as well as the under-rated Austin roots-rockers the True Believers. He's related to both Pete Escovedo and Sheila E, and on his WITH THESE HANDS (Rykodisc) album, his backup included Willie Nelson and Jennifer Warnes. On BOURBONITIS BLUES, he mixes ...

Five-time Grammy Award-winning Nelson Gonzalez is the undisputed authority on the Cuban tres guitar. The New York-based musician has performed with the industry's most luminous talent, and appeared on some of the most important releases in the Latin music world, including Cachao's Master Sessions, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, which won him two of his five Grammys. Musicians all over the States and Latin America seek out his unique skill on this instrument, from which son montuno, rhumba, guajira, and many other Cuban genres gain their unique flavor. On his debut disc as a bandleader, Gonzalez seems to set out to demonstrate the versatility of the tres Cubano, and also perhaps its importance. With selections in styles as varied as yambu, bomba, and descarga, Gonzalez proves to be a master of all the idioms that make up the Afro-Carribean genre. Given the contributions from musicians including Oscar Hernandez, Jerry ...
