Heldon main man and legendary guitarist/electronic godfather Richard Pinhas teams up with French cyberpunk novelist Maurice Dantec for six coruscating slabs of audio-literary skullduggery. Taken from their live tour in 1999, the synergy between Pinhas and Dantec is unique and mutually effective.
Dantec reads whole passages from his quixotic science fiction novels (in French), while Pinhas devises towering edifices of sound. Devoid of rhythm, SCHIZOTROPE consists of jagged guitar loops and sonic electronic curtains that crackle in the surrounding atmosphere. From the mid-1970s, Pinhas's Fripp/Eno-isms have transcended their origins to evolve into a style completely their own; stay with the rugged nuances of SCHIZOTROPE long enough and its luster will eventually rub off on you.
Recorded live in March 1999.
Schizotrope: Richard Pinhas, Maurice Dantec.
Personnel includes: Richard Pinhas (guitar); Maurice Dantec (spoken vocals).

Schizotrope: Life And Death Of Marie Zorn songs
$10.49 There's no shortage of legendary producers in line to work with music world titans U2; when work with Rick Rubin broke off, Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois stepped in. The resulting NO LINE ON THE HORIZON, 2009's offering from the Irish rockers, continues in the grand U2 tradition, as soaring pop anthems like opening single "Get on Your Boots" pair with experimental melanges like "Tripoli," on a striking album featuring touches of all the albums come before, yet hinting at new worlds for Bono to conquer.
After spending the 1990s experimenting with electronic music and returning to arena-ready rock during the first few years of ...

John Denver's music always had a warm, home-spun quality to it, so it isn't surprising that his 1975 holiday effort, Rocky Mountain Christmas, is a wonderfully low-key and friendly Christmas album. Divided between classic carols and new numbers, such as the fine "Aspenglow" and "Christmas for Cowboys," the album is an appealing, pretty ...

| | Naglfar Harvest CD (2007) Bonus DVD
Schizotrope: Life And Death Of Marie Zorn songs
$14.05 2007's Harvest sees Naglfar returned from quartet to a quintet, following the official addition of touring bassist Peter Morgan Lie (hardly the most crucial instrument in a black metal band, let's face it), in place of former bass player, now vocalist Kristoffer Olivius. As longtime observers will know, the latter had some rather big boots to fill when he took the reigns from longtime frontman Jens Rydén for 2005's Pariah, but when that album gained ready acceptance with most of the group's fans (falling only a few notches below the band's definitive effort, Sheol, in fact), Naglfar were unquestionably back in business. That being the business of creating uncommonly melodic and efficient black metal, of course (no overbearing orchestral bits, rudimentary primitivism, nor epic song lengths here), and with Olivius' surprisingly intelligible rasp leading the charge, harmony laced Harvest highlights such as "Into the Black," "The Mirrors of My Soul," and the title track arguably represent this unforgiving ...
