Hardcore punk band Refused opened up and expanded their sound for THE SHAPE OF PUNK TO COME (a take-off on the title of the classic avant-jazz disc by Ornette Coleman, THE SHAPE OF JAZZ TO COME). They've become more sophisticated in their presentation, but still maintain their crunching, take-no-prisoners musical ethic--when they let the guitars kick in, they still manage to deliver a brutal, politically inspired racket.

 Unfortunate that the title is a misnomer.
This record is an incredibly diverse disc of extreme proportions. If you like anything close to Refused get this album.

This is the album that should've changed everything for punk...just outstanding and original, Lyxzen has some of the most inspiring lyrics and delivers them beautifully, whether it be deafening screams or melodic chants. The Shape of Punk To Come isn't the normal definition of "punk" per se, but it is truly amazing what they created with this, their last full length CD. Too bad they "broke up", although they're all still good friends and The (International) Noise Conspiracy definitely helps ease the pain. But nothing can touch this band...pure genious. Buy the damn thing! NOW!!!

Refused really show on tis album that punk is not about spiky haircuts, self-imposed angst, skater shorts and whiny voices. Its about protest and the desire to push the music further. ESSENCIAL.
