You don't have to be a Rancid fan to acknowledge that the band lives and dies by the punk ethic of playing every note like it's going to be its last. You'll find one hundred and ten percent attitude and music that's as honest as you can get on RANCID (not to be confused with the band's self-titled 1993 release).
RANCID finds the band leaning away from its previous ska tendencies, and throwing itself head first into a full-on punk rock onslaught that should have fans of the early Clash seeking out the nearest mosh pit. "Let Me Go" has a chorus that sticks to you like peanut butter on the gums, while "I Am Forever" captures the essence and raw power of The Descendents. There's barely a pause between the 22 blistering tracks here, and it's clear the band intended it that way. "Rwanda" and "Radio Havana" offer huge sing-along choruses, while "Antennas" is unarguably the most melodic track in the set. But don't think that Rancid's getting soft; amid these glorious melodic moments, there's more than enough hardcore here to piss off your whole neighborhood.

pre lars rancid is better lars killed the band to me, rancid used to be good, like this album, i'll admit i like "and out comes the wolves" "lets go" and "rancid 2000" but this stuff they made here had the most energy and it was meaningful, they cant make a decent cd these days, rancid was suppose to come out with a cd in 2007 but instead tim came out with a self titled cd.
the years of downfall ('89-'90)
they didnt play many shows exclusivley in california, probably because they only existed for 20 or 30 shows and didnt release a cd or vinyl but had an unreleased set called "get ready for action"
early years of rancid ('90-'93)
playing shows at gilman all the time playin for the love of music the way many bands used to, lars came around late '93 and ultimatly changed the bands direction in music.
later rancid ('93-'03)
gaining popularity playing all over mostly with weller known punk bands like pennywise etc. but still not really sellouts but indestructibile was a mess and ultimatly caused failing popularity within there street cred fans.
rancid revived ('05-?)
been playin shows for awhile now without a cd release. its about time, maybe bring in jesse michaels or make a operation ivy reuinion tour!!! Submitted by caustic chris (my palace) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Lana Lane Secrets Of Astrology CD (2000)
Rancid (1993) music CDs
$18.99 Lana Lane has a spectacular voice. Honestly, a review of any CD by her could at least start with, if not consist almost entirely of, that statement. However, that really does not paint the full picture. On this album, Lane has surrounded herself with some incredible musicians, and the music is both powerful and all over the spectrum in terms of style. You will find songs on this disc that are quite definitely prog metal, but the majority of the disc is hard-edged prog. That said, there are softer songs that are just plain prog, minus the hard edge. The lyrical content of the CD is emotional and comes across as very honest; the vocals and music both add to those perceptions. The other interesting thing to point out is this: although much of the disc is influenced primarily by the harder-edged prog bands and prog metal outfits, there are moments on the album that come across as a harder version of progressive rock heroes Renaissance. In looking ...
