Personnel: El Hefe (vocals, trumpet); Eric Melvin, Desi Mizrahi, Jeff Abarta, Kim Shattuck, Mark Curry (vocals). Audio Mixer: Ryan Greene. With their 1994 album Punk in Drublic, NOFX truly hit their stride. The quartet didn't change their approach at all -- at their core, they remain a heavy, speed-addled, hook-conscious post-hardcore punk group -- but their songwriting has improved, as has their attack. Prior to this record, they merely showed promise, but with Punk in Drublic they fulfilled their potential. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Though NOFX have stuck closely to their powerhouse hard-and-fast pop-punk sensibility since their inception in 1983, their focus, chemistry, and songwriting skills improved steadily over the years, and '94's PUNK IN DRUBLIC is arguably their finest moment. If not for their in-your-face punk aesthetic, NOFX would qualify as a fine power-pop band. A knack for harmonies and deft, melodic hooks (which are seemingly tossed out left and right throughout the album) are no small part of the band's success, as the anthemic chorus of "The Cause" and the ringing refrain and "da-na-na-na" bridge of "Leave It Alone" prove. But NOFX rocks like nobody's business to boot. Near-speed-metal drumming, walls of crunching guitars, and fierce, power-chord-driven structures keep things churning and frothing throughout. The band's usual zany humor is in full force here, as on their ode to linoleum ("Linoleum"); but their goofy satire also reaches into thought-provoking territory with songs about race issues--"Don't Call Me White" and "The Brews," a tune about an orthodox Jewish gang. Witty, catchy, and full of gutsy punch, PUNK IN DRUBLIC eventually went gold, and solidified NOFX's place in the front ranks of the pop-punk movement.Kerrang (Magazine) (p.52) - "Catchy, unique, precocious and snotty....Awesome." sweet album This is the first and only NoFx album that I got, but I would like to buy some others..I think this album is cool..really good harmonies and vocals. My favorite song is "Jeff Wears Birkenstocks", with its kickin' - guitar and funny lyrics..I also like "Reeko", especially the end part, and "The Brews" is really good, very simple. Nothing Special Punk in Drublic is my first and only NOFX album. When I bought this album I was expecting much out of it because I heard all the hype about this band, but when I listened to the whole album I was kinda disappointed, all the songs sound the same, this album has nothing new or original, its very boring and tired, and it only has about four good songs on it. This album is mainly just for punk music fans, and is not really for everybody else. Submitted by Clayton (Bowie, TX, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Two months after Capitol's The Best of John Hiatt 1973-1998 hit the stores, A&M released Greatest Hits: The A&M Years '87-'94. It's hard to surmise what weird licensing agreements led to this release pattern, since the similarities will cause confusion even among dedicated fans, but there are notable differences between the two discs. Since Hiatt's albums for A&M in the late '80s were his creative peak, it's not surprising that Greatest Hits, which concentrates his A&M work, is a more consistent album ...

| | Stereophonics Just Enough Education To Peform CD (2001) Reissue
Punk In Drublic
$12.59 Repackaged with extra tracks.
Stereophonics: Kelly Jones (vocals, guitar); Richard Jones (harmonica, bass); Stuart Cable (drums). Additional personnel includes: Marshall Bird (harmonica, piano, Wurlitzer piano, background vocals); Glenn Hyde (harmonica); Hazel Fernandes, Aileen McLaughlin, Anna Ross (background vocals). Principally recorded at Real World Studios, Bath, England. Prior to releasing their third effort, Stereophonics endured brief controversy under the album's title, Just Enough Education to Perform. Already having dealt with the critics' views of this being a country or acoustic record, frontman Kelly Jones wanted the album to go by the abbreviation of J.E.E.P., which captures the band's opinions of the music industry. Of course, politics played the game and Daimler-Chrysler objected to the use, claming copyright and usage of the word "Jeep." Despite the media drama, Jones isn't entirely disenchanted on Just Enough Education to Perform and the album isn't heavy with needle acoustics or twangy licks either. It's another glassy cast of rock & roll rawness (with slight acoustics) that's made them indie darlings since their inception in the mid-'90s. Performance and Cocktails (1999) was more abrasive with Jones' signature scratchy vocals, and the rough poetics on 1997's Word Gets Around were impressive; however, Just Enough Education to Perform illustrates a more mature Stereophonics. It's a monolith of 11 detailed narratives, each playing with areas of soul, aggro rock, and moody pop/rock. The band from Cwmaman, Wales is trying to be more ...
