Recorded live at The Comedy Place, Andover, Massachusetts on May 12 & 13, 2000.
Howard Stern sidekick Jackie Martling's fifth album since joining the program, F Jackie is a nonstop barrage of dirty jokes delivered in Martling's manic, high-energy style. What separates Martling from other comics working similar territory is that he actually tells jokes. He doesn't rely exclusively on simple, "did you hear what he said?" shock value to get laughs; with hardly any exceptions, these are constructed jokes with setups and punch lines. The drawback is that chances are you've heard some of these jokes before; Martling still relies on the public domain for his material. But that doesn't make his performance any less impressive. After all, how many times have most people been asked if they know any jokes, and can't remember a single one, let alone an entire album's worth? Martling's near-shrieking delivery and relentlessly fast tempo may wear some listeners down over the course of 70-plus minutes, but the bottom line is that if you just want to hear some good old-fashioned dirty jokes, Martling's your man. ~ Steve Huey

| | John Valby American Troubadour CD (2002)
F Jackie CD music
$11.09 John Valby albums are so hard to tell apart because they're usually live and if you've bought more than one you're not doubt overlapping some of his popular tunes ("Eat Bite" or "Ya Ya," for example). American Troubadour is at least unique in that a wealth of the material is drawn from Valby's hatred of Osama Bin Laden and his followers. Well maybe not just his followers, but anyone who lives in Afghanistan, or Iran, or Iraq, and so on. Doubtful anyone has ever mistaken the foul-mouthed piano player for Pete Seeger (or for that matter, a humanist), but you've ...

F Jackie music CDs
$49.45 Although Chess Records is the Chicago label most often associated with black music from the 1950s and '60s, the Vee-Jay label gave Chess a respectable run for its money in terms of quality and variety. Jimmy Reed and John Lee Hooker, among others, are here representing the blues; while Jerry Butler, the Four Seasons, the Staple Singers, and the Swan Silvertones are among those weighing in for soul, doo-wop, and gospel. At 86 tracks spread over four discs, there's very little filler on ...
