"The Boys of Barr Na Sraide," for example, tells of historical battles with the Saxons, while the melancholic "Clyde's Bonnie Banks" is the tragic story of a mine explosion as told by "a fair maiden." The Woody Guthrie tune "Pretty Boy Floyd" (some listeners might know the Byrds' version on SWEETHEART OF THE RODEO) is an interesting exception in the otherwise Irish-oriented program. Moore's accent is a fine vocal asset, allowing him to chew and clip phrases to excellent effect, and Lunny and Faulkner's lush string accompaniment is a perfect backdrop for Moore's plaintive melodies.
Irish singer/songwriter Christy Moore achieved a good deal of popularity in the UK, both as a solo artist and as a leader of the bands Planxty and Moving Hearts. This live date finds Moore playing with a trio that includes bouzouki and guitar player Donal Lunny (also of Planxty and Moving Hearts), as well as Jimmy Faulkner on lead and slide guitars. Though well-known for his fusion of traditional Irish music and more contemporary rock and pop sounds, Moore works firmly in the Celtic folk idiom on LIVE IN DUBLIN, singing narrative songs of struggle to music that recalls his native land's ballads and reels.
Personnel: Christy Moore (vocals, guitar); Jimmy Faulkner (guitar & slide guitar); Donal Lunny (guitar, bouzouki, background vocals).

$17.69 Best New Artist of 2005 Bill Leslie (NAR Lifestyle Awards)headlines this album! The refreshing music of Bill and Bragh Adair will transport you to a lush landscape in Scotland or Ireland. The trio's fascinating sound has been described as tranquil yet exciting...haunting yet full of grace, peace and joy! While Celtic at the core, Bragh Adair also embraces elements of jazz, folk and impressionistic chamber music. This remarkable fusion results in a sound that will both surprise and delight. As one fan wrote: "Your music lifts the spirit and cuddles the soul." In concert, Bragh Adair is a brilliant blend of polished musicianship and playful interaction. Another fan wrote: "I'm still floating from that inspiring evening with Bragh Adair. What a spectacular thing has been born!" Concert goers say they love to hear the stories behind the original songs and enjoy the humor of this tightly-knit group. Still, it is the music that has made Bragh Adair one of those most exciting names on the concert scene. A Bragh Adair enthusiast put it best: "Your musical chemistry is absolutely amazing! Each instrument.... intertwined to create a brilliant, rich and sweet sound."“The Hunt” is Mary Johnson’s marvelous and multi-dimensional piece capturing the pastoral setting of a Celtic landscape followed by a rollicking ride in search of the wily fox. Listen to the percussion by Stephen Levitin and you will hear the fox jumping over stonewalls and eluding the chase. This concert favorite shares the title of Deb Stall’s wonderful watercolor cover for this CD.“Gatekeeper” was inspired by a mysterious dream Kerry had about a golden ...

$13.29 2007 Winner International Blues Challenge2007 Winner Albert King Best Guitarist AwardSean Carney & The Nite Owlz“Provisions - A Second Helping,” features the original CD re-mastered with three bonus tracks also recorded in 1997 with the same lineup that featured local luminaries John Popovich, David West, Edwin Bayard and Columbus’ Jazz Ambassador Gene Walker. “Provisions – A Second Helping,” features the late Nashville R&B Queen, Christine Kittrell performing her final studio recording, “True Love Untold.” , her own composition. Kittrell, who passed away in Columbus in 2002, was a key figure of the Nashville R&B scene of the 1950’s and was recently featured in a major exhibit at The Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee. In addition, Willie Pooch, guitarist Ray Fuller and pianist Tommy Thomas, a veteran of the 1950’s Harlem music scene, guest on the CD. “Carney possesses a working knowledge of T-Bone Walker’s music – its intricacies and dynamics – rivaling that of masters twice his age. I admire him sticking to his guns and being recognized on his own terms for the music he so obviously loves and respects… A strong recording for those blues aficionados who appreciate respectful detail to the way things used to (and still should) be.” – Vintage Guitar Magazine “Like something from a hip time capsule. Excellent song selections help make Provisions top notch: Carney’s vocals are happening and guest shots from Willie Pooch and Christine Kittrell are something special. This band has it goin’ on!” – Blues Revue Magazine “This set of tunes is hot and simmerin’. The cuts run the gamut from Lowell Fulson and Elmore James through Ike Turner’s Matchbox, and J.B. Lenior’s, I’ll Die Tryin’, and Johnny “Guitar” Watson’s, Oh Baby, follow in suit to give this disc that uppity, jumpin’ stylization. Carney’s guitar, the excellent horn arrangements and the chosen ...
