$14.79 A play on the title of Minnie Riperton's album PERFECT ANGEL, Mariah Carey's 12th career outing, MEMOIRS OF AN IMPERFECT ANGEL, sees the singer flexing her prodigious vocal gifts on 13 tracks structured like intimate conversations or entries in a private diary. Written and produced by Carey along with a host of longtime collaborators including Bryan-Michael Cox, Jermaine Dupri, The Dream, and Tricky Stewart, the album features the hit single "Obsessed" along with a cover of Foreigner's classic `80s ballad "I Want to Know What Love Is."

| | Pink Funhouse CD (2008) Explicit
Live
$10.35 Pink's insistently hooky, attitude-filled pop-rock has kept the singer a fixture on the radio and on singles charts since the early 2000s. The artist's fifth effort, FUNHOUSE, doesn't tamper with the formula: Pink's powerhouse vocals and in-your-face approach, backed by stadium-sized production, are in full effect on all 12 tracks. Even though the album deals primarily with aftermath of her divorce and includes serious moments of self-confrontation like "Sober," fans needn't worry that Pink has lost any of her chutzpah.
If anything, there's an increased sense of confidence and newfound liberation on tracks like the chest-thumping "So What" and the mischievous, bouncing "Bad Influence." In softer moments, like the ballad "I Don't Believe You" and the soulful "One Wrong Foot," Pink channels her personal experience into expressions that carry no less strength or muscle. But FUNHOUSE is a pop album first and foremost, and its catchy choruses, rollicking beats, and memorable vocal performances won't disappoint.
Arrangers: Stevie Blacke; Ulf Janson; Henrik Janson.
Personnel: Pink (vocals, background vocals); Shellback (guitar, acoustic guitar, omnichord, keyboards, bass guitar, drums, percussion); Pete Wallace (guitar, piano, harmonium, bass guitar, ...

$9.94 | | Al Jarreau Christmas CD (2008)
Live
$8.89 For the past few decades, Al Jarreau has established himself as a truly modern jazz singer, one for the post-fusion generation--those who grew up with the sounds of the cordial contemporary jazz of George Benson, Spyro Gyra, and Herbie Hancock. CHRISTMAS is Jarreau's first-ever collection of holiday songs on which he wraps his supple, honeyed vocal chords around some traditional Christmas classics. Jazz vocal combo Take 6 lend their voices for "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and the considered, varied arrangements of Jay Graydon and Jarreau himself keep the proceedings interesting.
Arrangers: Chris Walker ; Clare Fischer; Brent Fisher; Joe Turano; David Witham; Jay Graydon; Al Jarreau; Larry Williams ; Jorge Calandrelli.
Personnel: Al Jarreau (vocals, background vocals); Chris Walker (vocals, bass instrument, bass guitar, background vocals); Take 6 (vocals); Ross Bolton (guitar); Michael O'Neill (guitars, electric guitar, ...
| | Ugk Too Hard To Swallow CD (1992)
Live
$8.99 Truth in advertising, Too Hard to Swallow is UGK before they got funked up, grinding over some minimal, hard beats that aren't as complementary to their delivery as the smoother production they would later favor. Still, thanks to members Bun B and Pimp C's ability to write memorable rhymes, the album -- which repeats some tracks from their impossible to find indie release The Southern Way -- is a winner with three mammoth singles so important to the UGK story. "Something Good" puts a crooked beat under Rufus' most popular number, "Use Me Up" tells its pissed-off tale over a Bill Withers sample, and "Pocket Full of Stones" is a classic tale of crack rocks, Cadillacs, and making bail. The mucho macho "Cramping My Style" is a fan favorite with "hump and dump" lyrics that didn't really play nice with radio, and the snide "I'm So Bad" is a great example of how well Pimp C can offend and amuse at the same time. While most will prefer the Kingz' later sound, this is some fans' favorite album thanks to its unforgiving punch and visceral, controversial, cop-killer lyrics. ~ David Jeffries
