Another satisfactory album on Malaco for Latimore, who hasn't yet hit his stride on the label. His singing was soulful, but not as effective or hard-hitting as on other numbers. The production and arrangements were good, but there wasn't the energy or swaggering air that marked Latimore's best releases. His tenure at Malaco has been a successful one, but the definitive, exciting records he cut in Florida during the early '70s remain the high point of Benny Latimore's career. ~ Ron Wynn

I'll Do Anything For You album
$9.09 A candid and charming collection of songs that glisten as beautifully as a clear mountain stream. Singer/songwriter/poet Tom Rush had a wonderful idea in mind for a concept album, working with music business greats Arthur Gorson and Paul Harris to blend the best of the time period's songwriters. The effort results in a splendid achievement of emotionally and lyrically gripping material. Taking advantage of his resonant tenor voice and the ...

| | Then: Totally Oldies: The 70'S CD (2003)
I'll Do Anything For You songs
$14.45 Then: Totally Oldies, Vol. 6 carries on in the tradition of the first five volumes of the Then series by compiling a seemingly random selection of hits from an era, in this case the '70s, linked only by their popularity. This volume also carries on the tradition of providing a good deal for the money (lots of tracks, superior sound quality, decent liner notes) and being a lot of fun. The selections vary from the AOR of Boston's "More Than a Feeling" to the nasty funk of King Floyd's "Groove Me" and the folk/pop of Richie Havens' "Here Comes the Sun" to the drama pop of Bonnie Tyler's "It's a Heartache," the dorky psych-pop of ...
| | Stiff Little Fingers Guitar And Drum CD (2004)
I'll Do Anything For You album
$11.79 Long before Green Day or Blink 182, there was Ireland's Stiff Little Fingers, a fierce 1970s punk band high on energy and pop hooks. Despite many ups and downs, Stiff Little Fingers are still going strong on 2003's GUITAR AND DRUM, successfully mining the punchy, melodic punk they helped pioneer all those decades ago. The group still delivers loud and fast, though some of the edges have been filed down a bit (it's hard to imagine the dreamy jangle-pop of "Dead Man Walking" appearing on a record like 1979's INFLAMMABLE MATERIAL). Also, their accessible songcraft is more pronounced than ever--complete with sing-along choruses and riffs ready for hard-rock air-guitar playing.
There is a vague Celtic vibe to "Achilles' Heart" and a deep reggae influence on "Be True to Yourself." But this is not to say that the Fingers have gone soft. Jake Burns still sings with his ragged-voiced sneer, and the guitars remain razor-sharp. The pummeling tempo of "Empty Sky" and the moving Joe Strummer tribute "Strummerville" show the quartet still know how to tear up their amplifiers old-school style. Clearly, age has not dimmed their vitality or their enthusiasm.
SLF was founded by Jake Burns in Belfast circa 1977. Inspired by the new breed of bands like The Vibrators and The Clash, Burns immediately took to songwriting and performing. Being a product of the rough upbringing and turbulence that Northern Ireland had to offer. The material created by Burns and performed by the band became the blueprint for revolutionary punk rock with a purpose. Their first album Inflammable Material ...

| | Destruction Island Preaches The New Wilderness CD (2008)
I'll Do Anything For You music CDs
$12.65 Rock bands come and go. There are hopes and dreams, blood and sweat, triumphs and failures. The microcosm of the van, the practice space, and the dingy stage enlarges the tiny everyday dramas of the struggling musician into something profound and epic. As with our own lives, the brief incarnation of a band seems so crucial during its existence, but its death reveals the sad reality that all things are temporary and insignificant in the grand scheme of things. But before sliding into the depths of despair and cynicism, one must remember that all things leave a trace, and from ashes and dust grows new life. Destruction Island may never have existed if not for the life cycle of bands that preceded them. The quartet paid their dues and learned their lessons in a variety of underground acts. Having cut their teeth on the national touring circuit and the small indie market, the dissolution of their old projects provided the base for the creation of something new, something greater than the sum of its expired parts. With Preaches the New Wilderness, this Tacoma, Washington-based ensemble have eschewed the standard trappings of burgeoning bands and stepped directly onto the path of greatness. Absent are the blatant nods to their record collections, the obvious ...
