Multicoloured Blue album
$9.09 For the past few decades, Al Jarreau has established himself as a truly modern jazz singer, one for the post-fusion generation--those who grew up with the sounds of the cordial contemporary jazz of George Benson, Spyro Gyra, and Herbie Hancock. CHRISTMAS is Jarreau's first-ever collection of holiday songs on which he wraps his supple, honeyed vocal chords around some traditional Christmas classics. Jazz vocal combo Take 6 lend their voices for "I'll Be ...

| | Les Paul & Friends: American Made World Played CD (2005)
Multicoloured Blue music CDs
$11.29 Released in celebration of Les Paul's 90th birthday, AMERICAN MADE WORLD PLAYED pays tribute to the master guitarist and inventor who changed the face of jazz, country, blues, and rock with his recording and guitar-design innovations. While the lineup here is stellar and includes vocalists Sting, Joss Stone, and Mick Hucknall (Simply Red), and guitarists Joe Perry (Aerosmith) and Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi), among others, the album is at its best when it allows Paul to shine in an instrumental setting, as on the slinky rendition of Duke Ellington's "Caravan" and the funky "69 Freedom Special."

| | Ray Davies Kinks Choral Collection CD (2009)
Multicoloured Blue CD music
$15.05 Orchestral and choral arrangements of rock songs have been a curious subgenre ever since the mid-'60s when Andrew Loog Oldham arranged The Rolling Stones Songbook for syrupy strings, but The Kinks Choral Collection stands apart from the pack for the simple reason that it's not the project of some associate or admirer, but rather chief Kink Ray Davies. His very presence as arranger and lead vocal means The Kinks Choral Collection isn't nearly as stuffy and middlebrow as so many of these orchestral rock albums; he manages to inject some semblance of rock & roll by pushing the songs forward with guitar, and letting the rhythms swing instead of plod. This looseness is the first big surprise of the album. The second is its unrepentant but quite possibly accidental silliness, how many of the major guitar riffs are transposed for choir, an audacious idea in concept that's simply goofy in practice. These choral chants hamper the hardest rocking songs here -- "You Really Got Me," "All Day and All of the Night," "Victoria" -- and they're mercifully absent from the slower tunes, songs ...
| | NOFX Pump Up The Valuum CD (2000)
Multicoloured Blue music CDs
$10.29 All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
PUMP UP THE VALUUM is just one more episode in NoFx's perfectly arrested development. The band begins its umpteenth album with a perfect introduction, "And Now For Something Completely Similar," a play on the old Monty Python line; NoFx's greatest asset lies in its ability to stick to its guns and avoid the pressure to mature, or even mutate.
On PUMP UP THE VALUUM, Fat Mike and the gang are still writing brilliantly bratty two-minute ...
| | Soulive Turn It Out Remixed CD (2003)
Multicoloured Blue songs
$13.05 Few of the DJs and producers onboard are able to correct Soulive's polite dinner-music tendencies on Turn It Out Remixed. As a result, the disc will only appeal to a small percentage of the group's dedicated followers. Me'Shell NdegéOcello, the Beatnuts, J-Live, DJ Spinna, two-fifths of Jurassic 5, and a small cast of lesser-knowns are present; the majority of these people are able to cast a grittier and more lively coating on Soulive's sound, but most of the attempts are for nought. You still get the feeling that the group ...

| | John Lewis Wonderful World Of Jazz/Evolution CDs (2007)
Multicoloured Blue songs
$10.69 Collectables presents a surprisingly logical double reissue of two great Atlantic albums by pianist, composer, arranger and bandleader John Lewis. The Wonderful World of Jazz was originally released in 1960; Evolution (the first of two by that title) came out in 1999. These albums complement each other quite well; much better in fact than some other Collectables two-fers. The music recorded in July and September 1960 involved Lewis' quartet (Jim Hall, George Duvivier and Connie Kay) and two different teams of wind players: Herb Pomeroy, Gunther Schuller, Eric Dolphy, Paul Gonsalves, Benny Golson and a baritone saxophonist identified here -- probably for contractual reasons -- as "James Rivers." This is known to have been Jimmy Giuffre rather than New Orleans-based R&B saxophonist Jim Rivers. Each selection on Wonderful is remarkably accessible and fine. A fifteen-and-a-half minute version of "Body and Soul" (the track list on the back cover says five-and-a-half) is exquisite. "Evolution" is a solo piano recital recorded at Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown, NY during January of 1999. ...
