Kirk's occasionally plain indie rock sound is greatly helped by the slanted and off-kilter chord progressions in Hail's songwriting. The album is at its most interesting on tracks like "Pyrite," where odd guitar constructions call for references to That Dog or the early work of Sleeper. Hail's pop dedication occasionally leads them into less interesting territories -- bits of Kirk are competent but undistinguished indie material -- but the edgy slant of the group's songs makes the record a rather appealing one. ~ Nitsuh Abebe
Hail: Susanne Lewis (vocals, guitar, violin, organ, keyboards, sampler); Bob Drake (organ, keyboards, bass guitar, drums); Dave Kerman (drums).
Additional personnel: Bill Gilonis (guitar); Faon Lewis (viola); Chris Cutler (drums).

Kirk album
$11.99 Additional personnel includes: Donovan (vocals); Mick Mashbir, Dick Wagner, Steve Hunter (guitar); Bob Dolin (keyboards).
Digitally remastered by Dan Hersch and Bill Inglot (DigiPrep) and by Brian Kehew and Bill Inglot (November 2000, Capitol Studios).
While their theatrical stage show (which featured the singer getting his head chopped off by a guillotine) may have made Alice Cooper a household name, the material on BILLION DOLLAR BABIES is so exceptional there is no danger of the music being overshadowed by gimmicks. The album became Cooper's biggest selling release, but it would prove the last effort by the original incarnation of the Alice Cooper band (who would up split a year later). But the group hits the mark completely here, combining the raw garage rock of earlier albums with a glossier production, but with plenty of edge, grit, and sleaze still at the music's core.
While mission statement "No More Mr. Nice Guy" is the best-known ...
| | Billy Currie Transportation CD (1988) (Import) United Kingdom
Kirk CD music
$20.99 Originally released in 1988 on the I.R.S. label No Speak, this was Billy Currie's debut solo album. It remained out of print for a number of years, until Currie reissued it on CD through his own label (Puzzle and Voiceprint). Ultravox fans will be thrilled to ...
| | Tempest Balance CD (2001)
Kirk music CDs
$13.89 Balance is Tempest's first studio album of new material since 1997's The Gravel Walk. The band endured several personnel changes in the years following The Gravel Walk: The 10th Anniversary Compilation introduced new members John Land (bass) and Dave Parnall (guitars) in 1998, while the following year the group's independently released Live at the Philadelphia Folk Festival welcomed new guitarist Todd Evans, who displayed a harder rocking style than his predecessor Rob Wullenjohn. Balance finds Tempest again adjusting to the addition of key members, namely bassist William Maxwell and fiddler Jim Hurley, who replaces the effervescent Michael Mullen (who rosined up the bow ever since the group's 1996 Magna Carta debut Turn of the Wheel). Only singer Lief Sorbye and drummer Adolfo Lazo remain from the band's late-'80s inception. With a keen sense of traditional Celtic and Norwegian music, Tempest is a rock band ...
| | Robert Plant Nine Lives CDs (2006) With DVD; Remastered; Box Set
Kirk songs
$65.69 Listening to the whole of Plant's catalogue, what impresses most is its variety and range. Beginning with 1982's PICTURES AT ELEVEN and continuing through 2005's MIGHTY REARRANGER, NINE LIVES offers up atmospheric grooves, 1950's-style pop, synth-driven new wave, Middle Eastern drones, straight blues, and a healthy dose of post-Zeppelin thunder. Plant's voice morphs too, from dispassionate popster to banshee wailer to retro crooner and elsewhere, never letting the shadow of his former band determine his stylistic choices. Beautiful packaging and a comprehensive ...

Kirk songs
$15.25 Manyfingers (aka multi-instrumentalist Chris Cole) emerged out of the shady and mysterious Bristol scene that spawned the likes of Flying Saucer Attack, Movietone, Third Eye Foundation and Amp. Previously best known as Third Eye Foundation luminary Matt Elliott’s right hand man, cellist and drinking buddy, Cole has also been a sometime member of legendary pastoralists Movietone as well as being the current drummer of the excellent post rock band Soeza. Cole's relative obscurity is set to change with the release of his full length debut album Our Worn Shadow, a magnificently ambitious multi layered gem of a record. He plays piano, drums, cello, Spanish guitar, accordion, vibraphone ...
| | Riot Squad No Potential Threat CD (1984) (Import) Canada
Kirk album
$21.65 No Potential Threat is the long-awaited reissue of a compilation released (by the Dunk label) in 1984, to mourn the then-recent passing of Riot Squad, one of the most visceral of all the first generation Oi! bands. Compiled from half-a-dozen unreleased recordings dating from the end of the band's career, it was a remarkable tribute to a band that stated their case with their very first slice of vinyl, the still remarkable "Fuck the Tories." From thereon in, Riot Squad enjoyed a short but never less than brutalizing career, with the singles "Riot in the City," "There Ain't No Solution," and the EPs Don't Be Denied and I'm OK, Fuck You all storming the independent ...
| | Brian Groder Torque CD (2007)
Kirk CD music
$15.15 NEW: Groder & Greene, Brian's latest disc with Burton Greene (piano), Rob Brown (alto saxophone), Adam Lane (double-bass) and Ray Sage (drums). Right here on CDBaby.Downbeat Magazine named 4-star rated 'Torque' one of the Best CDs of 2007. Publico, the national daily newspaper of Portugal, named 'Torque' #10 in the "Top Jazz CDs of 2007". Geoffrey Himes, critic for the Washington Post and JazzTimes, nominated 'Torque' as #8 in the "Top 10 CDs of the Year" 'Torque' is, for many, a first wide exposure to the music of Brian Groder, and the response to this "new vision for modern jazz" (according to Midwest Records) is overwhelming.Several editions of All About Jazz proclaimed this disc to be "music of ceaselessly fascinating possibilities", as "four brilliant musicians listening closely to one another and playing extremely well together" create "a graceful recording marked by the flawless tone of Groder." The interplay of this champion of modern progressive jazz and the legendary Sam Rivers (abetted by his long-time colleagues Doug Mathews and Anthony Cole, on Cole's final recording date with the Trio) has elicited raves from around the world, calling the music "Razor-sharp" (UK), "The absolute definition of free" (Sweden), "Interesting and beautifully constructed" (Netherlands) and "A true definition of today's jazz: swinging, vibrant and full of vitality" (Portugal). Torque has been compared to the mid-60s music of Miles Davis, the harmolodic output of Ornette ...
