One of the key bands in Germany's Kraut-rock movement of the 1970s, Faust took concepts from the experimental avant-garde (sound collage, ambient synth, music concrete, improvised noise, et al.) and applied them to a rock framework. 71 MINUTES... collects tracks from two unreleased albums recorded in the early-to-mid 1970s, RETURN OF A LEGEND and FAUST PARTY. And while this is not an immediately easy set to enjoy, if given the time there is a tremendous amount to be gained from it.
Nothing here comes off as straightforward, though elements of fuzz rock ("Don't Take Roots"), ambient ("Das Meer"), and proto trance and techno ("Munic-Yesterday) all appear in brilliantly mutated forms. 71 MINUTES OF is experimental music in the purest sense of the word: though Faust certainly had inspirations, there was simply no previous attempt to put such styles together. The band mixed and matched disparate sounds both new and old, fixed what wasn't broken, and expected nothing from the mainstream. Inspiring.
Reissue of 1971 album by one of the finest Krautrockoutfits ever. This legendary 13 track collection of 'lost'and unreleased material will appeal to fans of Can, Nektar,Neu!, Throbbing Gristle and numerous other experimental art-rock bands. 1998 ReR Megacorp release.Q (8/96, p.132) - 4 Stars (out of 5) - "...(a merger of two long deleted albums) is more placidly organic but just as challenging [as THE FAUST TAPES]..." 71 Minutes Of Faust Music 71 Minutes Of Faust Songs 71 Minutes Of Faust Review

71 Minutes Of Faust album
$14.59 Univers Zero's debut recording, 1313, may be somber, but it's a walk in the park compared to their second release, which features more or less the same lineup as the first (oboe, bassoon, viola, violin, bass, guitar, keyboards, drums), except for an additional and prominent contribution of cathedral organ from guitarist/keyboardist Roger Trigaux. Studio overdubbing sometimes gives the five-man group the ...

71 Minutes Of Faust CD music
$12.99 Though a commercial blip in its day, Krautrock has become one of the most enduring movements in music history, with countless indie acts namedropping the genre's most famous as influences. Now, as then, Hamburg's Faust gets the least love. Revisited Records hopes to change that with this long overdue reissue of the band's classic second long-player, SO FAR. One of the worst commercial failures in the history of Virgin Records, SO FAR was a slight capitulation to the marketplace ...

| | Bluebottle Kiss Revenge Is Slow CD (2002)
71 Minutes Of Faust album
$12.79 Revenge Is Slow is Bluebottle Kiss' fourth album, but the first to be released in the United States. It's about time, too -- and though it's easy to compare the Australian pop quartet to the hugely popular Coldplay, Bluebottle Kiss has absorbed more Afghan Whigs, more Bad Seeds, and more Dinosaur Jr. than the Brit giants. Revenge Is Slow ranges from the country-pop opener "Father's Hands," which would please fans of Ryan Adams, to the sparkling noise pop of "Last Cinema," one of the band's best songs. Tracks like "Hasten the Blows" and "Prussian Blue" build slowly and delicately, and "Gangsterland" is awash in crunchy guitar psychedelia. It may not be an entirely consistent album, but when at its best, Bluebottle Kiss is unstoppable, layering noise, feedback, and jangles over a core of power pop. ~ Charles Spano
Described by Rolling Stone (Australia) as "A storming piece of work beautifully composed", Sydney-based Bluebottle Kiss plans to invade the United States in 2003.Brought up on a steady diet of Sonic Youth, Afghan Whigs, and Dinosaur Jr. As well as classic Australian visionaries like the Church and the Bad Seeds, Bluebottle Kiss' fourth full-length, "Revenge Is Slow" (In Music We Trust in the U.S.), finds the trio expanding to a four-piece, with bassist Ben Fletcher moving to second guitar alongside singer/songwriter Jamie Hutchings. "This opens up the sound to the point where they can be considered alongside other like-minds with an ear for a solid pop tune like Neil Finn and Sparklehorse" (Noel Mengel, The Brisbane Courier-Mail).Their uncompromising, heady and melodic sound has earned them a four-star review Rolling Stone, garnered them a three-hour spot light on the biggest alternative rock station in Australia, Triple J, and a glowing review in Drum Media that described them as "arguably Australia's most idiosyncratic guitar band". Sharing the stages with such acts as Sebadoh, Bonnie Prince Billy, Morphine, and Silverchair (Daniel Johns referred to BBK as his favorite Australian band and an influence in his songwriting), Bluebottle Kiss has proven they can, and will, play to any audience.Their latest, "Revenge Is Slow" is an ...
| | Jo Jo Gunne Jumpin' The Gunne CD (1973)
71 Minutes Of Faust CD music
$11.59 Jay Ferguson wrote all ten of the songs on Jumpin' the Gunne, an album produced by Bill Szymczyk and the third disc by this offshoot of the group Spirit's. By this time, Mark Andes was gone -- he would join Firefall and later Heart -- leaving his brother Matt Andes on guitar and Jay Ferguson on keyboards, lead vocals, and second guitar, and leaving them to their own devices. There is just something that doesn't catch on here. "At the Spa" and "Monkey Music" both have their moments, but in these grooves there is none of the intensity of their first hit "Run Run Run" or Ferguson's later signature tune, "Thunder Island," which came during the middle of Firefall's string of hits. "To the Island" isn't "Thunder Island" by any stretch, while "Getaway" sounds a bit like a Doobie Brothers outtake. Jo Jo Gunne was a decent concert pairing opening for the Doobies after their Run Run Run debut LP. The sounds on "Couldn't Love You Better" pretty much sum up this disc -- nondescript album rock with an LP cover which ...
