| | Surf Crazy: Original Surfin' Hits CD
Instead of featuring the original hit versions of the 29 tracks on Surf Crazy: Original Surf Hits the collection features approximations of big hits -- Billy Strange's "Hava Tequila," not the Champs' "Tequila"; the Breakers' "Surf Bird," not the Trashmen's "Surfin' Bird"; Billy Strange's "Walk, Don't Run '64," not the Ventures' "Walk Don't Run." ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Includes liner notes by Henry S. Ford.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
The title of Surf Crazy: Original Surf Hits is a little misleading. There aren't many big hits on the 29-track collection, only approximations of big hits -- Billy Strange's "Hava Tequila" not the Champs' "Tequila"; the Breakers' "Surf Bird," not the Trashmen's "Surfin' Bird"; Billy Strange's "Walk, Don't Run '64," not the Ventures' "Walk Don't Run." As a result, the disc is really frustrating for casual fans. Hardcore surf collectors might find a couple of gems buried on this disc, but there are so many mediocrities cluttering the collection that it's tough work to find them. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Surf Crazy: Original Surfin' Hits Music Surf Crazy: Original Surfin' Hits Songs | 1. | Latina - The Sentinals |

Surf Crazy: Original Surfin' Hits
$11.99 Digitally remastered by Jim Phillips (Universal Mastering Studios West, North Hollywood, California).
Although it omits three songs from the far less comprehensive (and deleted) 1983 12-track Best Of, and doesn't include any live or post-A&M music, this 2000 release stands as the final word on the Ozark Mountain Daredevils' career. Cherry-picking 21 tunes from their five studio album stint circa 1974-1978 -- with the lion's share coming from their first three albums and only three selections from the final two -- this is pretty much all you'll need from the under-recognized band that worked in the '70s country-rock shadows of Poco and Firefall, but weren't as ...

Surf Crazy: Original Surfin' Hits
$8.15 New Orleans' Basin Street Records, which had its offices flooded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, returns to action with this five-song EP from Theresa Andersson, who previously released her album Shine on the label. For both the company and the artist, the five-track, 18-minute disc is a way of showing the flag and announcing that they are still in the game. Andersson has played different kinds of music since debuting with the jazz disc Vibes in 1994. Here, she is aiming for a rustic, country-blues sound à la Lucinda Williams, whose "Jackson" is the first track. "Accustomed to the Dark," ...
