Personnel: Nick Vidar (programming). Audio Mixer: Bruce Botnick. Liner Note Authors: Neil Norman; Daniel Schweiger. Recording information: Paramount Pictures Scoring Stage M (10/19/1998-10/23/1998); Paramount Pictures, Scoring Stage M (10/19/1998-10/23/1998). Editor: Bruce Botnick. Veteran composer Jerry Goldsmith made a full return to the scoring stage for this 1998 underscore (Star Trek: First Contact was composed in part by his son, Joel Goldsmith). For the film, Goldsmith was called upon to provide both softer romantic music and grand action music, and delivered both reasonably well. The music covers a very broad dynamic range, with some extremely quiet and delicate passages, as well as the expected fortissimo sections involving copious amounts of brass and percussion. Still, while Goldsmith doesn't turn in a disappointment here, this is overall a relatively minor score for him. The orchestral performance is good, but not outstanding, and Bruce Botnick's engineering work is, as always, on the mark, providing both the orchestra and the electronic instruments room to breathe and range to punch. ~ Steven E. This score is amazing! The battle cues are excellent, the use of the main Star Trek theme, the Klingons theme and the Ba'ku theme is very good.
But the problem with this GNP score is: it is NOT complete! There is even a track which you can't here in the movie. The one in the movie sounds even better.
If Jerry Goldsmith's music is so much loved all over the world why don't they just put every single second of music on those Soundtrack CDs?
Anyways, fantastic score, Mr. Goldsmith! Keep it up! Submitted by a reviewer (Munich, BA, Germany) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Star Trek IX: Insurrection I'm not mush into classical type music, but I am a Star Trek fan. As I see sit back and listen to the music, I feel I'm watching the movie. It puts me in the feeling of being part of the story. I also imagine seeing the orchestra playing this music. This is worth having to your Star Trek collective, otherwise "you will be assimulated". Fine Soundtrack for a Decent Movie Jerry Goldsmith's score is particularly gentle, though it has its dramatic moments. Throughout the music there is good structure, and so, unlike his recent soundtrack for Nemesis, there is almost no ambient sounding background music: each cue on Insurrection feels like a self contained concert piece. Highly recommended for Star Trek, Goldsmith, and fans of popular orchestral music. Submitted by a reviewer (Pittsburgh, PA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful.
