| | Strictly The Best Vol. 15 CD
VP's Strictly the Best series lost its strictness several volumes ago, and the merciless onslaught continues with tracks by Lady Saw, Beenie Man, Mad Cobra, Capleton and Merciless. ~ Keith Farley
Compilation producers: Derrick Moo-Young, Ryan Andrews, Joel Chin.
Spin (3/96, p.111) - 7 - Flawed Yet Worthy - "...reflect[s] the...compromise between two extremes wherein earthly and spiritual loves and wars coexist, creating a more inclusive and more interesting cosmology. Drawing from the first half of 1995's bumper crop of DJs...VOLUME 15 not only showcases that season's most popular artists; it shines a light on reggae producers, the real reggae hitmakers..." $13.39 The Strictly the Best series is the longest-running reggae compilation series and this volume clearly demonstrates why. A solid collection of 1998's hard-driving dancehall, Strictly the Best XXI displays the rough and ready side of the genre, booming with hot beats, sex and ...

$13.95 Recorded in Zurich, Switzerland in October 1960 and in Paris, France in November 1960. Includes liner notes by Stanley Dance
Digitally remastered by George Horn (Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
Recorded in Coleman Hawkins' later period, BEAN STALKIN' blends elements of swing and bebop in a unique manner. A live album, Hawk seems particularly inspired on the two dates heard here, a change from his rather sleepy ...
| | Jon Bon Jovi Destination Anywhere CD (1997)
Strictly The Best Vol. 15 songs
$12.59 In the years since breaking out of New Jersey's bar-band scene, Jon Bon Jovi's group has sold millions of records and become a household name. DESTINATION ANYWHERE reflects Bon Jovi's creative growth since his 1990 solo album BLAZE OF GLORY. Collaborating with a mix of producers including rave scenester Steve Lironi, Dave Stewart, ex-Hooter Eric Bazilian and hit doctor Desmond Child, Bon Jovi maintains his knack for writing catchy material while gilding the edges with sampling, drum programming and other textures not normally associated with his music.
Bon Jovi often wears his influences on his sleeve; "Janie, Don't Take Your Love To Town" resembles Oasis' "Don't Look Back In Anger," and the lonely cabbie in "Little City" could have been a character in a Springsteen song. But "August 7, 4:15" (about the murder of his manager's daughter), shows ...

Strictly The Best Vol. 15 album
$6.85 The soundtrack to Mike Nichols' 1967 masterpiece, THE GRADUATE, alternates between Paul Simon's songs and pieces of Dave Grusin's deliberately naff Swingin' Sixties score. All of the former, with the exception of "Mrs. Robinson" and a negligible solo ...

| | Geoff Keezer Falling Up CD (2003)
Strictly The Best Vol. 15 music CDs
$15.59 For his Maxjazz Piano Series debut, the veteran pianist seems intent on exploring all types of formats from solo piano to large ensembles, and all types of inspirations from Ellington to Bach. Having played with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie to Joshua Redman and Christian McBride, Keezer is most at home with his cozy trio of Scott Colley (bass) and Karriem Riggins (drums) on playful, improv-driven pieces like the title track and the understated "Palm Reader." His most experimental excursion is the mystical, new age-y "Navigating By Starlight," which finds Keezer also playing vibraphone (to hypnotic effect) and Rhodes. Steve Wilson contributes an airy flute melody and there's also a sample from the Asian American Jazz Orchestra to complete the exotic dreamscape effect. For all that, the disc is centered around three collaborations with Hawaiian slack key legend Keola Beamer, including the serene "Shiny Shell Lullaby" and the folksy, meditative "The Horsewoman." These tunes are lovely and provocative, but don't do all that much tempo wise; mostly, they serve to take Keezer out of his usual parameters and show off yet more invention. ~ Jonathan Widran
