Reggae Gold 1997 is an entertaining collection of party-oriented dancehall reggae, and while there are a few slow spots scattered throughout the record, it's still a first-rate sampler. ~ Leo Stanley Reggae Gold 1997 Songs | 1. | If Jah - Tony Rebel |

| | Incredibles Heart & Soul CD (1969)
Reggae Gold 1997
$9.95 Some good easy R&B from the Incredibles, a trio from Los Angeles consisting of two males and a female. Led by Cal Waymon, the Incredibles specialized in crying ballads, even when the message was positive. On their biggest record, "Heart & Soul," the overall feel was one of sadness and despair; when they sing Sam Cooke's hit "For Sentimental Reasons," it sounds more like wishful thinking than actually being in love and being loved in return. The titles all depict rejection and heartache: "Standing Here Crying," "Crying Heart" (which has a mid-tempo beat), "Lost Without You," "Stop the Raindrops," and on and on. "I Found a Love" is the most uplifting tune on the album -- at least on this track, the singer finds a new love after being dumped. Although sad, most of the tunes work well. "I'll Make It Easy," for example, is a lovely ballad where Cal pleads with his woman to return home because if she does he'll make it easy; the touching refrain rivals "Heart & Soul" for the honor of their most popular recording, and upon release it crept into the Top 20 rotations on many R&B stations across America. ~ Andrew Hamilton Some good easy R&B from the Incredibles, a trio from Los Angeles consisting of two males and a female. | | Bad Brains CD (1982)
Reggae Gold 1997
$11.25 BAD BRAINS was originally released on cassette. It was issued on CD for the first time in 1996. Bad Brains: H.R. (vocals); Dr. Know (guitar, background vocals); Darryl Jennifer (bass, background vocals); Earl Hudson (drums, background vocals). Recorded at 171-A Studios, New York, New York between May and October 1981. Includes liner notes by Ira Kaplan. For fans of hardcore, many would agree that the holy grail of the genre is Bad Brains' self-titled album, originally released back in 1982 as a cassette-only release on ROIR. The ensuing years after its initial release haven't dulled the album's fury and rage in the least, and it's still impressive how the band can switch gears from red-hot hardcore to cool reggae dubs in the blink of an eye. All the classics are here: "Sailin' On," "Banned in D.C.," "Pay to Cum," "Right Brigade," as well as one of their strongest reggae tunes, "I Luv I Jah." The back of the album boasts a quote from the Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch, which sums up the proceedings simply, "the best punk/hardcore album of all time." [Although Bad Brains was available on CD on the now-defunct In Effect label in the late '80s (then titled Attitude: The ROIR Sessions with a different album cover), it's since ...
