| Superb album from a Chicago folk legend gone too soon Steve Goodman, a regular on the Chicago folkie scene, died too young in 1984 after a long battle with leukemia. This self-titled album includes some of his best-known songs, including the iconic "City of New Orleans," Arlo Guthrie's cover of which served as the theme music for NBC's "Today" show for years. Best track may be Goodman's depiction of love and loneliness, "Donald and Lydia," but the whole album is memorable. By mbrachman (evanston, IL , USA) |
| A Great Debut Album! A terrific mixture of smart, humorous songs ("I Don't Know Where I'm Going But I'm Going Nowhere in a Hurry Blues," "Eight Ball Blues"), great ballads ("Would You Like to Learn to Dance," "Yellow Coat"), some good covers ("Jazzman," "Mind Your Own Business"), and, of course, Steve Goodman's original version of his classic train song, "The City of New Orleans." The Only Clunker is "So Fine." By Jake (Portland, OR, USA) |
| The most heart wrenching song ever. This is not Steve's finest album, although it has some of his classic Country songs. However, "Would You Like To Learn To Dance" just might be his all-time most beautiful song. Its worth the cost of the album just to have this song in your "Steve collection". By Pat M.
