| | Lovin Spoonful Summer In The City: The Encore Collection CD Lovin Spoonful Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Although it isn't a definitive collection by any means (look for Rhino's Anthology, if you want that), BMG Special Products' Summer in the City: The Encore Collection is nice sampler of ten of the group's biggest hits and best songs. Favorites like "Coconut Grove" and "Younger Generation" may be missing, but all the true essentials -- "You Didn't Have to Be So Nice, " "Nashville Cats, " "Summer in the City, " "Rain on the Roof, " "Do You Believe in Magic, " "Daydream, " "Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind, " "Darling Be Home Soon, " "Younger Girl" -- are here in their original hit versions. There may be no liner notes and the sequencing may seem random, but Summer in the City is a nice, basic collection for budget-conscious casual fans. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Budget price collection featuring ten of the group's biggest hits and best songs. Including 'You Didn't Have to Be So Nice', 'Nashville Cats', 'Summer in the City', 'Rain on the Roof', 'Do You Believe in Magic', 'Daydream', 'Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind', 'Darling Be Home Soon' & 'Younger Girl'.

| | Lungfish Necrophones CD (2000)
Summer In The City: The Encore Collection
$9.55 It's understandable that Lungfish might sound a little tired after 13 years of punk innovation. Whether or not the slow-motion stance of this, the group's eighth release, is interesting is another question entirely. This query can be answered with a resounding "maybe." Of course, interest generally depends on the individual, but there are a few empirical observations about this album that aren't easily disputable. For starters, the tempo and temperament of Necrophones is subdued. This mellowing sharpens the focus on Daniel Higgs' obtuse lyrical patterns, which are as broad and codified as ever. Some find mystical balance in Higgs' non-linear, almost random poetry, while others howl about a perceived nonsensical verbosity. This interpretive envelope is what Necrophones seems designed to push, as Lungfish has finally graduated from the school of post-punk sonic deconstruction. Nothing ...
| | Papillion Cajun For Kids CD (1998)
Summer In The City: The Encore Collection
$11.45 An interesting introduction to both Cajun music and the Cajun lifestyle for youngsters. There's as much spoken word as sung, to tell stories about what it's like living in the Louisiana bayou country. Zydeco lite perhaps, but most likely enjoyable ...
| | Fightmaster Closer Now CD (2001)
Summer In The City: The Encore Collection
