| | Elvis Presley Christmas Duets CD (2008)
Cherry Electric CD music
$10.39 In the manner of Natalie Cole's UNFORGETTABLE, Elvis Presley's CHRISTMAS DUETS is a collection of Christmas songs that Elvis recorded throughout his career, remixed in 2008 to add new vocal parts by many of today's biggest female country stars, some of whom had not yet been born when Elvis died in 1977. Guest vocalists include Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Sara Evans, LeAnn Rimes, and Amy Grant. Other guests include Anne Murray and Olivia Newton-John, ...
| | Taylor Swift Fearless CD (2008) Enhanced CD
Cherry Electric music CDs
$14.69 Taylor Swift abandons any pretense that she's a teen on her second album, FEARLESS--which isn't to say that she suddenly tarts herself up, running away from her youth in a manner that's all too familiar to many teen stars. Swift's maturation is deliberate and careful, styled after the crossover country-pop of Shania Twain and Faith Hill before they turned into divas. Despite the success of her self-titled 2006 debut, there's nothing at all diva-like about Swift on FEARLESS: she's soft-spoken and considerate, a big sister instead of a big star. Nowhere is this truer than on "Fifteen," a kind warning for a teen to watch her heart sung from the perspective of a woman who's perhaps twice that age--a sly trick for the 18-year-old Swift. There may be a hint of youthfulness to her singing but that's the only hint of girlishness here; her writing--and she had a hand in penning all 13 tracks here, with six of them bearing her solitary credit--is sharply, subtly crafted and the music is ...

| | Johnny Cash American IV: The Man Comes Around CD (2002) Bonus DVD
Cherry Electric album
$11.99 "Give My Love To Rose" won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
Includes a bonus DVD featuring a music video for the song "Hurt".
When the first volume of Johnny Cash's AMERICAN series appeared in 1994, it would have been difficult to predict its critical and commercial success, much less the fact that an illness-beset Cash would be turning out a powerful fourth installment of the series eight years later. Like its three predecessors, AMERICAN IV is a home-recorded, bare-bones Rick Rubin production wherein Cash tackles old classics by other writers as well as more contemporary tunes by artists from the rock world, with a smattering of his own new compositions thrown in. It's also arguably the strongest since the first volume.
Now that the novelty of hearing the Man in Black tackle tunes by the likes of Depeche Mode ("Personal Jesus") and Nine Inch Nails ("Hurt") has worn off, we can get past the gimmickry to fully appreciate the power of Cash's soul-baring interpretations. He brings ...

| | Joacim Cans Beyond The Gates CD (2004)
Cherry Electric music CDs
$10.59 In the 21st century, the power metal scene isn't just veteran headbangers like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Queensr˙che, it's also power metal revival bands such as Symphony X, Iron Savior, Morifade, DragonForce, and Rhapsody. The difference between the older power metallers and the younger power metal revival acts is not a stylistic difference but rather, a matter of when a band came along; stylistically, the power metal revival combos that were formed in the '90s or 2000s are consistently mindful of the power metal artists who started recording in the late '70s or '80s. That is certainly true of the Sweden-based vocalist of Hammerfall, Joacim Cans, who maintains his devotion to old-school power metal throughout his solo project Beyond the Gates. This 2004 release offers no acknowledgment of post-'80s trends in alternative metal; there are no chugging or downtuned guitars on Beyond the Gates, and the disc is totally oblivious to alt metal favorites like Sevendust, Korn, Slipknot, and Limp Bizkit. When Beyond the Gates is playing, one is transported back to a time when Ronald Reagan was president of the United States, Margaret Thatcher was prime minister of England and power metal was ruled by the melodic yet forceful likes of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Grim Reaper, and ...
