| Echoes Of My Life Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) mabel Mercer is a great rare treat If you love caberet songs as I do, and don't know Mabel Mercer, it's time you were introduced. My facvorite caberet singers are Mabel, Marlene Dietrich, Edith Piaf and the fabulous contemporary German singer Ute Lemper. But Mabel Mercer is unique. Her voice is really intimate, no belter, she. She sat to sing, in a long gown with a shawl or fabric draped over her shoulders. She's the total antithesis of a Barbra Streisand, whom I love. Mabel had the most uncanny sense to unearth wonderful tunes, with great lyrics. And no one can give a song the TLC that Mabel does. Her phrasing, her enunciation, her sense of drama[never overplayed but just right], all are wonderful. When she sang one of her great songs even when we heard her last in her 70's, you felt: she knows, she knows what it's all about, even if the song were about young love. Picture yourself in a small, dark quiet nightclub in NYC with no one in her audience more than 30 feet away from her and nothing but a good piano in the background. It was a real dialogue between Mabel's singing and your heart! Submitted by epmusic (Elberta, AL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Echoes Of My Life album
$9.99 Kristin Chenoweth capped a rising career in musical theater with her debut solo album, which found her showing off her well-trained soprano in a collection of show tunes, most of which dated to the interwar period. On Irving Berlin's "Let Yourself Go," she tap danced like Fred Astaire in Follow the Fleet, and she worked up a torrent of comic anger in Jule Styne's "If You Hadn't But You Did." Then, she switched gears, proving herself a potently romantic figure in the Gershwins' "How Long Has This Been Going On?" and Rodgers and Hart's "My Funny Valentine." And so it went. Backed by the Coffee Club Orchestra, the resident backup band for City Center's Encores! series of concert versions of lost musicals, with whom she had worked on Strike Up the Band and On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, she recreated one of the Strike Up the Band numbers, the lesser-known Gershwin treat "Hangin' Around With You," abetted by another musical theater veteran who had branched out into TV, Jason Alexander. Jeanine Tesori and Dick Scanlan's previously unheard "The Girl in 14G" allowed her to ...

Echoes Of My Life music CDs
$9.55 Music composed by Mark Hollman. Lyrics written by Greg Kotis.
If your first reaction on hearing about a musical called Urinetown is that that's an awful title, don't worry, the authors are way ahead of you. Its awfulness is the point, and Urinetown is as much a musical about a musical as it is, well, a musical. The opening song, for example, is called "Too Much Exposition," and in it, Officer Lockstock (Jeff McCarthy), who acts as the narrator, explains "the central conceit of the show," which is that, in a mythical town suffering a drought, "everyone has to use public bathrooms" and pay high fees, a story line Little Sally (Spencer ...

Echoes Of My Life CD music
$57.80 Without argument, Frank Sinatra is the most iconic American singer of the 20th century. This whopping five-disc set issued by Reprise attempts to define Sinatra by performing in the place that seemingly defined him. It contains 61 never-before-issued performances of the singer in concert appearances in New York from the mid-'50s through to 1990. It also includes a DVD of a performance at Carnegie Hall, taped in 1980 with 16 more performances, for a total of 77 tracks. Disc One features radio broadcasts. Its first four cuts are taken from his appearance at the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra's 20th anniversary gig, broadcast from Manhattan Center in 1955. The selections are all ballads, with the capper being "This Love of Mine." Disc Two is comprised of an excellent performance at Carnegie Hall, with Bill Miller conducting the orchestra, and Sinatra's great quartet. This is where we get performances of "My Way," "Send in the Clowns," and "Bad Bad Leroy Brown." Disc Three also comes from 1974; recorded at Madison Square Garden, ...
